🍂 3-2-1 FALL VINTAGE FASHION TRUTHS, TRENDS, INSPIRATION 🧵 3 TRUTHS BEFORE YOU SHOP VINTAGE 1️⃣ RESEARCH THE LABELS. You don’t need to be a fashion history expert! Start learning which vintage clothing brands and designer labels are sought after from different eras. Use the @vintagefashionguild label resource as a quick reference right from your phone. 2️⃣ KNOW YOUR MEASUREMENTS. Vintage clothing sizes vary by decade and brand. Carry a tape measure, check the garment measurements, and compare them with your own for a better fit. 3️⃣ SET A BUDGET. Vintage shopping is exciting, but those unique finds can add up quickly! Decide how much you want to spend before entering the store. 🍁 2 FALL VINTAGE TRENDS 1️⃣ PATINA VS. DAMAGE. Patina is the natural aging that gives leather and denim character over time. But there’s a difference between beautiful aging and actual damage! Check for stains, weakened fabric, tears, and deterioration before buying. Condition matters when shopping for vintage clothing. 2️⃣ VINTAGE BELTS ARE HAVING A MOMENT. Add a little vintage flair to your modern wardrobe with a belt from another decade! In the 1920s, decorative metal chain belts complemented drop-waist fashions. By the 1930s, belts often emphasized the natural waist. One vintage accessory can transform an outfit! ✨ 1 POINT OF INSPIRATION 🎬 Goddesses in the Machine | @bardgradcenter Discover the stunning costumes of the silent film era through Goddesses in the Machine at Bard Graduate Center in NYC. If you can’t make it to NYC, explore the online exhibition or look for the accompanying book to discover more about early Hollywood costume and fashion history. 💚 ALWAYS FOLLOW @vintagefashionguild @shopvfg @fashionpastforward 🛍️ SHOP & FOLLOW @timetravelersvintageshop @halcyonvintage @fashionatyourfeet_vintageshoes @marchionessvintage @her.vintagecloset 💬 Which vintage shopping tip would you add to the list? Share it in the comments! Save this post for your next vintage shopping trip! #vintagefashion #fashionhistory #vintageshopper #vintagestyle #vintagetrends

More vintage finds from Connie! 🐌📫📦 For those of you who are new here, Connie is Halcyon's founding mother. She started this vintage clothing shop in 1983 and, when she retired in 2017, I took over. And, because she can't stop finding vintage (or it finds her!), she sends us an occasional box of her hand picked goodies which we love to open in real time with you! **In this box, she included a few extra copies of her book "First Hand Tales from a Second Hand Store" with stories about her adventures opening and running Halcyon. If you would like to purchase a copy, let us know. #vintageunboxing #vintagefinds #richmondvirginiavintage #vintageclothingshop #halcyonvintageclothing
