That's how you do Sundays. 50km ride first thing...with an iced coffee en route, followed by some baseball, watching friends play...and then more iced coffee and ice cream by the beach....😀🚴‍♂️⚾️🍦

i'm hazel (she/they) and i'm a musician and photographer from brighton. i love photographing people - particularly street photography and portraits. being a trans woman i sometimes feel very visible and conspicuous in public, but i have developed a confidence in myself that i hope makes the people i photograph feel at ease.

i've been shooting film since i was a child on my parents' camera, but i really got into it as a teenager with an olympus OM-1 i got from a car boot sale, back when portra cost £2.85 a roll (i have the receipts to prove it!) more recently, i've fallen in love with half frame photography, as it gives a softness to edges and a roughness to textures which renders people beautifully.

1 - i chased after these cool punks in town to ask if i could take their photo. after a couple of shots, the man grinned and said "how about something side-on?" and they handed me this shot on a plate. yashica samurai x4.0, ilford hp5 (pushed 1 stop)

2 - i like the contrast between the two halves of the scene, the shopkeeper on the right finding a small bubble of calm and shade, while shoppers file down the narrow street on the left. this was my first time shooting motion picture film from @thisis_howiroll and i love the results. olympus pen f, kodak vision 3 250D

3 - my friend cali (@dronebih) and i did a nighttime photoshoot, adventuring around town in search of colourful lighting. we shot three rolls that night, but the colours on this roll came out the most beautiful. olympus pen f, kodak vision 3 500T

4 - i got a yashica samurai and was shooting a test roll when it started snowing, so i ran outside, trying not to slip on the slush and ice. at first i was annoyed by the reflection obscuring the person's face, but i like the anonymity - they're in their own cosy world of primary colours and warm lighting, disconnected from the falling snow outside. yashica samurai x4.0, kodak ultramax

5 - after finishing the photoshoot, cali and i were on the hunt for a hot chocolate when we walked past this street lamp. i got my camera back out my bag and fired off the last couple shots on the roll. olympus pen f, kodak vision 3 500T
