VIE ATHLETICA’s Top 5 Picks ⛳️ public golf courses within 1hr drive.
1. The Course at Wente Vineyards — Livermore
Wine-country golf at its best. A Greg Norman championship course through rolling vineyards and oak-studded hills — scenic, challenging, and completely unique in the Bay Area.
2. Half Moon Bay Golf Links — Half Moon Bay
The coastal round you never forget. The classic parkland Old Course and the Scottish-style Ocean Course, both finishing on bluffs above the Pacific. Stay for sunset on 18.
3. Cinnabar Hills Golf Club — San Jose
27 holes, three different nines — Lake, Mountain, and Canyon. Big elevation, foothill views, and a real escape, just minutes from Silicon Valley.
4. TPC Harding Park — San Francisco
A major-championship public course. Monterey cypress, Lake Merced, and the same closing stretch that decided the 2020 PGA Championship.
5. Pasatiempo — Santa Cruz
An Alister MacKenzie classic from 1929. Brilliant bunkering, wild greens, and bucket-list golf that’s still open to the public — just over the hill from the Bay.

Stopped in at the @ritzcarltonhmb on a work trip about 7 years ago for a cocktail and watched groups play in on 18. Told myself I’d get out here and play it eventually.

Took an earlier flight before another busy work trip to finally make it happen. Amazing experience!

One of the most beautiful finishing holes in golf. 🌅

The Pacific Ocean. A breathtaking sunset. Four golfers living their best lives.

Three of us made memories.

Dave made a donation to the Pacific Ocean. 🌊🏌️‍♂️😂

Your dream trip doesn’t have to fit into one box 🌍

Hi, I’m Jess, a Chicago-based travel advisor and the founder of Travel Geek Jess. After years in the corporate world, I decided to build a career around what I truly love: traveling, planning and creating memorable experiences.

I take more than five trips a year, and my favorite itineraries combine several interests in one unforgettable vacation.

🦁 South Africa remains my favorite trip because I could experience safari, Cape Town, wine country and the coast

🍷 Wine country getaways are my favorite type of trip, especially when they include small producers, countryside restaurants and charming towns

⛳ Golf, skiing, hiking and horseback riding are some of my favorite ways to experience a destination

🍽️ A beautiful hotel and an excellent dinner reservation will always make the itinerary

That same variety inspires the custom trips I plan for my clients. Whether one person wants adventure and the other wants time to relax, I bring both travel styles together in an itinerary that feels personal to you.

Follow @TravelGeekJess for custom travel ideas, luxury hotel recommendations, golf getaways, wine country escapes, honeymoons and thoughtfully planned adventures.

What would your perfect trip include? Tell me in the comments, or send me a message when you’re ready to start planning. ✈️

Come play the beautiful par 4 18th hole at the Old Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links with me. It was a very comfortable, foggy, misty day on the Pacific Ocean. It was 92 degrees 10 miles from here.

The lesson here? I need to spend more time learning to flight my wedges and trusting that I can hit a 120 yard club 108 yards. I was caught in between here and chose to hit a full 56°. My intention was to ride the helping wind blowing off the right, but the shot came out too spinny, ballooned into the wind, and missed the green left. I should still be able to get up and down from there, but missing the GIR left me with a more complicated read than it needed to be from that yardage.
