After months of planning, we’re finally here and the British Art Fair is officially open.

It feels incredibly special to be exhibiting at Saatchi Gallery this week, and I’m very proud of the group of artists we’ve brought together for Stand 60.

This year, Soden Collection is presenting:

Ian Rayer-Smith
Halima Cassell MBE FRSS
Sharon Griffin MRSS
Charles Eastwood

If you’re visiting the fair over the next few days, please come and find us. It would be lovely to see some familiar faces, meet some new ones and, of course, show you the work in person.

The second exhibition I wanted to highlight at Ruthin Craft Centre was Carved, featuring artist Halima Cassell.

This was another artist I hadn’t actually come across before, despite her having such an impressive and varied practice. Halima is a skilled maker, artist and sculptor who has experimented across a wide range of mediums and materials, including wood, glass, marble, bronze, brick, porcelain and concrete.

Her work uses geometric shapes and architectural principles to suggest a sense of movement, while also drawing inspiration from her travels and heritage.

I found the works on show really striking. They were clean and confident, with patterns and shapes that suggested forms found within the natural world. Each piece seemed as if it was a moving and functioning creature, frozen in time.

Carved is on until 20 September in Gallery 1, offering an overview of Halima’s practice and the variety of materials she works with. 💜
