189 Minutes

Suspended in the entrance pavilion of the 22 July Centre, 189 Minutes is a light installation visible from Johan Nygaardsvolds plass, illuminated around the clock.

Comprising 189 lamps, each representing one minute between the bombing of the Government Quarter and the apprehension of the terrorist, the installation functions as a clock that measures only its own time.

An endless cycle of light, frozen in the timeline of 22 July.

AHO WORKS AWARD for complexity in design to Fanny Hamran 🎉 Sponsored by Halogen @halogen_as

Line 18 – Navigating the Tensions of Gender-Affirming Care

There are various aspects to what constitutes complexity in an issue. A useful typology is one set forth by Alford and Head which separate two main axes in which to situate different types of complexity, one having to do with the inherent knowledge and knowability of the problem itself and the solutions, and the other having to do with difficulties regarding to stakeholders and institutions, and the degree to which their knowledge is distributed or inconsistent and that their interests are aligned or in conflict. This project deals with an issue that is complex in all of these aspects.

Dealing with gender-affirming care is difficult from almost any profession, not only because it deals with highly personal issues, with health, with the body, with identity, as well as being highly politicized, it becomes complex because in the center of this difficult issue, are often vulnerable persons in need of support and, as this project focuses on: agency.

This project deserves merit for moving away from the temptation to solve, and instead takes an open, curious and courageous approach to how we might support the needs of those who are navigating this treacherous landscape. It’s discursive and uses this highly interesting topic to reflect back on the role our profession might take in the face of such issues, as well as critiquing how taken for granted and well meaning assumptions can in certain cases create more harm than good.

Congratulations to Fanny for navigating such a hornets nest of a topic, with clarity, honesty and professional integrity.

OBS!

◾️ Espen Larsen-Hakkebo, @brimexplorer
◾️ Magnus Nystrand, @corporate.communications
◾️ Didrik Dege Dimmen, @auk
◾️ Marie Mostad, @startuplab_no
◾️ Anniken Fjelberg, @sprint_consulting
◾️ Paul Chaffey, @halogen_as
◾️ Niklas Skovholt Mortensen, @designit
◾️ Anne Elisabeth Bull, DOGA

Dato: Torsdag 8. januar

AHO WORKS AWARD WINNER 🎉in Complexity from Halogen to Jaakko Hilmola, Melissa Wen Hui Lee, Patrizia Maria Landerl, Stella Wan Yee Tan, and Pernille Nilson Ramstad.

AGE-FRIENDLY living in Bodø
The complexity prize celebrates projects that are able to deal with complex challenges particularly well.

Age-friendly living in Bodø shows an understanding of relevant issues from multiple perspectives and levels, from systemic to interpersonal, from service level interrelationships to ownership models, from soft systems to physical environments, addressing different life phases and needs.

The project is able to seamlessly tell a coherent story from so many perspectives without ever losing the red thread.

The visuals are clear, pedagogical and inviting, and supported the presentation of the project particularly well. The proposed interventions are visually situated in time and space, creating not just a future vision, but a tentative timeline for development.

The solutions presented reflect the disciplines represented by the students. But the structure of how the project is presented, going from problems and potentials, to design intentions and finally to interventions, keeps the work open to new contributions, while still making a holistic and concrete set of believable, relevant and inspiring solution proposals.

Congratulations!
