OFFICIAL BEHIND THE SCENES c/o @frenna , @wizkidayo & @iamodeal “ Coca Body “ One of the most important discoveries throughout the making of this film was realizing how negative space can become a subject in itself rather than something that simply surrounds the frame. It deepened my understanding of how light, repetition, symmetry, architecture, and colour can work together to shape image making within motion. Every stage of the process was incredibly rewarding, and collaborating with the teams in London and Paris made the experience even more special. The ballet sequences were inspired by my fascination with movement within stillness. Kanye West’s Runaway has long been a visual reference for me, particularly in the way it treats choreography as emotion rather than performance. My intention was to create a visual language that could resonate with audiences beyond Afrobeats, inviting viewers who may not be familiar with the genre to connect with its emotion through imagery alone. John Murray Anderson’s King of Jazz (1930) also became a significant influence, especially its theatrical staging and composition, which informed the construction of the ballet scenes. Another memorable aspect of the project was filming beneath the architectural grid roof featured in Wizkid’s scenes. I have admired the work of Matière Noire Design Studio for years without initially realizing this installation was theirs. Seeing it in person transported me back to my days as a design student. Matière Noire is celebrated for pioneering an atmospheric approach to scenography and lighting design, transforming architectural spaces into immersive emotional environments. Filming within one of their creations felt like a natural continuation of my ongoing dialogue with architecture and, in many ways, marked my first exploration of French design within my visual practice. Thank you to everyone who worked on this project. Onto the next BTS Dept - @nanakinq @iamkenyatay @re_y_on @visualsbyta @jahnaytennai @romain__k @worldssbyruss @mvpx1337
