Suri and Simba: Trivandrum Zoo’s Lion Cubs Release Marks a Historic Milestone after several decades. Trivandrum Zoo has celebrated the release of Suri and Simba, a pair of seven-month-old #lion cubs—one male and one female—marking the lion cubs release in the zoo’s history after several decades.
Born and raised under the intensive care of #zoo officials, animal keepers, and veterinary doctors, Suri and Simba received continuous health monitoring, proper nutrition, medical care, and dedicated attention throughout their early development. Their successful release into the designated enclosure reflects the commitment of the entire zoo team to animal welfare, wildlife conservation, and responsible captive-animal management.
The occasion is a proud moment for Trivandrum Zoo and highlights the importance of professional #veterinary care and coordinated efforts in nurturing healthy young animals. [ zoo, lion, wildlife, care and conservation, veterinary ]

Rescued as orphaned calves during the annual floods in Kaziranga in 2020 and 2021, two greater one-horned #rhinoceros, Kanai and Chandra, have come a long way on their inspiring journey #BackToTheWild.
Under the dedicated care of the WTI-IFAW team at the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC), and with the support of the Assam Forest Department & @kaziranganptr_official they were successfully translocated to the Kaziranga National Park on 29 January 2026.
The complex operation, which followed scientific management and well-established rehabilitation protocols, was overseen by a skilled veterinary team comprising Dr Bhaskar Choudhury (Centre-in-Charge, CWRC, WTI), Dr Sourabh Buragohain (FVO, Kaziranga), Dr Mohit Nyol, Dr Mehedi Hassan and Rishi Nandanan along with experienced animal keepers from CWRC. Officials from Kaziranga National Park, led by Dr Sonali Ghosh, IFS, Field Director, Kaziranga, Mr Arun Vignesh CS, DFO EAWL, and range officers, were joined by subject-matter experts Dr Rathin Barman, Mr Kaushik Barua, and Dr Anupam Sarmah, who supervised and supported various aspects of the translocation.
To date, 25 orphaned rhinos have been rehabilitated through these efforts, giving them a second chance at life in the wild. After approximately two months of acclimatisation in an in-situ enclosure, Kanai & Chandra will be fully released into their natural habitat.#wildlife #fyp #trendingnow
