#throwbackthursday
My old friend Dave Vann (legendary photog for @phish @jambase and many others) has been sending me some photos from 20 years ago, some of which you may have seen on my stories.

Yesterday he blew my mind with a batch of images from my very first ‘big’ @everyoneorchestra show in 2003 from the @crystalballroom in PDX.

It was my first time meeting the @alomusic and @hamsalila families ( @zachgillalo @lebo_tone @stevealo @mjgreenmountain @mozaik and @virmccoy are still friends), my first jams with @jjjanover @thebigwhoo and @kimock_official (including a cameo from a then very small @johnmorgankimock ), and my first big appearance using my name in PDX after moving back from college. I knew @mattvanbutler @scottlawmusic @tyenorth and @saxophonejess already, but this was the start of a new chapter for me and would lead to many more amazing experiences and relationships.

Sadly my hard drive with my pre-2005 photos died a decade ago and I haven’t seen any pics from this era in a while. Thank you Dave for the magical trip down memory lane! I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been… ♥️🥰🎶✨😍

Harmonica is a great pocket instrument I’ve been carrying with me since I was a kid.
Invented in 1820 in Germany as a tool for tuning pianos and brought to America by German immigrants in the mid nineteenth century, the harmonica became a huge trend.
Most significantly, the harmonica found a home in the Deep South in the 1870’s where African Americans found a new approach to playing it and it was adopted into the blues genre which was new to America at that time.
Later the instrument became a piece of military issue equipment for soldiers in WW1 to keep up moral.

Now I’m offering beginning #blues #harmonica #lessons via #zoom & #facetime .
Message me if you’re interested.
I’d be happy to get you started!
