Sprinting is the most potent stimulus for your central nervous system (CNS).

It teaches your nervous system to recruit the right muscles and turn off unnecessary tension, which results in more fluid movement.

It teaches your body to coordinate force absorption. Every step you absorb ground forces 2-5x your bodyweight on one leg. This improves tissue stiffness around your knees, hamstrings, ankles, and hips. Injury prevention isn’t just about strength or flexibility, it’s about how well your body can coordinate force absorption.

It improves neural drive, which is how strongly the nervous system can signal muscles to contract. This raises the ceiling for strength, and makes everyday movement feel easier.

On top of that, humans evolved to sprint, not just to walk or jog. Sprinting is a different gait pattern than those other movements. By sprinting, you train the most fundamental human movement pattern. That’s why once you start doing it, you feel better.

*****

This is not conditioning. This is maximum output.

Each sprint is done with full rest in between (2-5min).

These are done with low volume and maximal intent.

Adding a sled or some form of resistance (like hill sprints) is a great way to start, because it limits how fast you can go. This helps build the tissue capacity necessary to do non-resisted sprints on flat ground.
