Well, it was long overdue but we finally managed to haul our corpses down to California to play some music at strangers, and it we’ll be damned if it wasn’t even more fun than we expected it to be! We can’t wait to be back again soon!

Extra special thanks to our buds @hand_model for joining us for two shows and @genitalshame, @gloomhead_, @whineofficial, @ihatetiredeyes, @h0lyd0se, and @h0rmon3 for being part of a whirlwind trip.

Stuffing a Large Black Bird is the new album by @hand_model, out 9.29.26 via @dumb_edge. Listen to “Toxic Flower”, streaming everywhere, and pre-order the vinyl on Bandcamp. Links in @hand_model or @dumb_edge bios.

Hand Model was the Los Angeles-based solo project of Ignat Frege. Joined recently by friends Jess Labrador (of @chasms____, guitar), Zack Frederick (synth, vocals), and Nathan Burger (of @hundredblissband, bass), Frege (drums, vocals) has evolved his electronic project into a full band with guitars, drums, and synthesizer.

The single and album art is by @kathryn__mohr.

On the agenda this week....

Soulful funk and house music via Calgary's FLYTRAP, Detroit's smoothest and funniest mofo Moodymaan and absolute house classic from Round One via New York's Main Street Records.

Things take a peculiar turn as we lean into some rhythmic noise / tekno via some INNSTYTER and Dan Fun records I picked up during a recent Calgary trip (hat tip to @melodiyarecords & @hot_wax_records)

We the shuffle into pure minimal wave / drum machine funk and body music territory featuring music by Lorenz Peter, Memorex, ADSR, VISITOR, Hand Model & Gloved Hands, Men with Secrets, In Trance 95 and much more.

Tune in as I train my minimal wave DJ muscles for the upcoming Memorex (@memorex_music) + ViSITOR (@visitor_band ) and LP Lorenz (@lps_lps_toronto ) that I am djing at @aviary.edmonton on July 15 (see last slide for more details)

Nostalgia, analogue minimalism and the symbolic significance of pigs.

Also the chronic, immeasurable longing to drink beer through the lens of a post-Soviet upbringing.

Chudo Pustih Ruk (The Miracle of Empty Hands), the recent release via @dumb_edge from Hand Model & Gloved Hands, piqued my curiosity after emerging from the digital undergrowth.

I chatted with Ignat and Morgan about it via FALSE EXCITEMENT.

My favorite music related website, Yellow Green Red, had this to say about the new record I made with my sweet pal @hand_model. If you squint and look really closely, you can read the review, but it would behoove you to just read it on the website where it isn’t so small. Then, get yourself a copy of the album if you’ve got the guts.

Boxed in by noise in @knucklehead_hwood whose walls on June 25th will close in on you as you watch
@machinekiit @field_of_fear @hand_model @filoplume_band and as you dig, digging and tearing out with your nails and teeth the memory of that false window @chitfun hung there so that you’d believe there were taco stands outside but you have to get through the four band bill to something, above, below, there’s no direction because there’s no Hollywood but there must be because you recall something more, but not much more than this divebar in which you rock, in which there’s hardly room for your body, due to the stoned crowds, so you dig tunnels and passages in the throngs to get out, to create room to mosh in, any kind of space, not this confinement like a tomb that you bite, scratch, break, without getting a third beer, there never was a third beer because the second beer doesn’t end, the fresh air was a hallucination, the plant that grows in the ditch they insist that you puff, a playful flame that stokes the trees, and also calls for an American Spirit, the feeble sun colored yellow pack through the bulletproof plastic window of the corner store, fluorescence faking light under water in which you swim un-hurriedly, to ignore the rubble and leaving through Western, Sunset, or La Cienega.
