Well it’s been a big surprise and honour for me to find out recently that I am a finalist in the @handandlockprize for embroidery!

In recent years I’ve grown to love canvas work as a way to be creative at home, when I’m physically tired from gardening but still full of ideas. I love how tough the final textile becomes and how bright the colours can be.

So if you’re in London in November do come and see the show at The Building Centre, 26 Store Street, London. Tuesday 3rd November to Friday 6th.

New issue alert. Pre orders are now open.

In the run up to the Christmas festivities, our November/December issue is sprinkled with magic. From the work schedule of a Hollywood embroiderer to the island world of a Haitian drapo Vodou creator, we reflect that a life in embroidery always has that little bit of sparkle.

Coverage of perhaps the biggest embroidery calendar highpoints includes a preview of the shortlist for the @handandlockprize 2026 and a review of @knitandstitchshows London.

Elsewhere, one new face is Vidushi Parashar @vidushi_p12, who interacts with viewers through unique playful sculptures, while Kyoko Sugiura’s @kyoko_creation_broderie whimsical anthropomorphic vegetable characters are delicate fusions of European and Japanese techniques.

@marthahusseystudio reflects contemporary life in her work, even in her modern-day take on the Bayeux Tapestry, while Jo Torr is a sculptor whose medium is historical costume, put to stunning effect in her new touring show.

@aranillingworth tells of her studies of homeless people and @deborahcollumloveart considers the meaning of ‘home’ in the face of war ravaged areas across the world.

@deenabeverley introduces her new vintage-inspired book, @rachael_jane_macdonald provides a personal account of her vibrant works laden with folklore and superstition, while with more than a casual nod to classic horror films, @karensuzuki2779 puts the fright into the night-time.

Needlepoint Guide No. 2: London 🇬🇧🧵

I absolutely love London. I’ve been several times, and one of my favorite things about it is how you get all the energy of a huge city while being surrounded by SO much history.

And researching this guide made me love it even more.

London may not have a needlepoint shop on every corner, but needlework is so deeply woven into British history and culture. This guide ended up being such a fun mix of traditional needlepoint, historic embroidery houses and institutions, iconic textile destinations, and newer designers doing really cool things with the craft.

There are places to shop, places to learn, places to get inspired, and even a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the Bayeux Tapestry while it’s in London.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you the full London guide on Substack, with links to all of the stops plus some of the specific kits, products, and British brands I found while researching. It’ll also live there permanently so you can come back to it whenever a London trip is actually on the calendar.

And now I need your help choosing where we go next 👀 Comment the city you want to see next, and like the comments you agree with. The most-requested city is getting the next Needlepoint Guide.

Save this one for your next London trip ✈️🧵 #needlepoint #londonneedlepoint #threadhousetravelguide #londontravel #needlepointtravel
