由即日起至 2026 年 1 月 31 日，東方表行選址ELEMENTS 圓方開設首間概念店「TAKE YOUR TIME ORIENTAL WATCH COMPANY」。

I Sprout a Flower

In life, there are always sorrowful memories. In HANG’s creative world, flowers symbolize joy. Drawing from past sights and experiences, she builds a joyful, strange, and imaginative realm where the impossible becomes possible on canvas.

The characters and scenes in her paintings drift between fiction and open space, seeking moments of wonder within the ordinary. By incorporating flowers and elements tied to happy memories, she opens a new world for both the artist and the viewer.

➠ HANG周幸宜 @hang_yeec

Born in 1991, HANG is a Hong Kong artist and a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her works have been exhibited in Taiwan, Tokyo, London, Chicago, and beyond.

Drawing from daily life and childhood memories, HANG explores themes of choice, freedom, and inner conflict through surreal self-portraits. Her figures—playful yet tinged with melancholy—inhabit a strange, emotional world. With large eyes and faint smiles, they seem to engage the viewer directly. Guided by intuition and a stream-of-consciousness approach, her work reflects on the relationship between nature and humanity.

Inspired by HANG’s artwork “What’s for Breakfast” and the classic Breakfast Martini, this cocktail brings the artist’s whimsical and free-spirited approach into mixology. It’s a unique balance of savory and sweet, with the eye or nose of the character from the painting delicately depicted atop the foam.

Hang (b.1991 Hong Kong) graduated with a Master’s degree in Architecture from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2022, she debuted with a series of paintings titled “I WANT TO CAPTURE EVERYTHING IN MY EYES” at the “Freestyle - Contemporary Art Pop-Up Show” in Taiwan and thus, began exhibiting her works in Taiwan, Singapore, UK and USA.

Hang primarily uses acrylic as her medium. Her pieces frequently feature a cute, animal-like protagonist who embodies human emotions; devoid of name, identity, or gender, the protagonist can be anyone. With unusual large eyes, hysterical tears, and a blurred smile, the character expresses confusion and fear regarding both past and future.

Hang’s visual landscapes are often portrayed as chaotic, intense, and hallucinatory, lacking in external details, hinting at a critique and rejection of contemporary reality—or perhaps a passionate desire to survive in this chaotic time. Through the interplay of light and dark colors, her works guide viewers to reflect on and deconstruct the societal norms that have shaped our past, present, and future.

The protagonist in the scene is like an innocent child, gazing at the towering mountains and the starry sky. The flowing colors behind them resemble an open rift in the universe, bringing an endless dreamlike vision. Everyone is a small yet unique existence in the vast sea of stars, and simply living authentically is already precious enough.

In this dreamlike, flowing starry night, the protagonist's enormous eyes reflect the grandeur of towering mountains and the serenity of nature, as if carrying the weight of the world within their gaze. The swirling colors in the background resemble the silent starlight of the universe—calm and eternal. Clutched tightly in their arms is a cold, lifeless skull, symbolizing both emptiness and the shackles of relentless self-expectations.
The universe is vast and boundless, while life is fleeting and small. Within our limited time, we burden ourselves with countless responsibilities and expectations, engaging in an endless tug-of-war with our inner selves. Yet, the starry sky gently whispers to us: let go of those unnecessary burdens. The meaning of life isn't found in achieving perfection, but in living authentically, feeling each breath, and cherishing every moment of existence.
The starry night is not just a background but a silent answer—between eternity and emptiness, all we need is to live well, live lightly, and that is enough.
