🏴‍☠️ A Wall Between the Posts

With one match remaining in the season, Steel City goalkeeper Hannah Fedinec sits atop the league's saves chart.

It's no surprise. The Woodridge native and Downers Grove South product has built a reputation on doing the hard work.

Last fall at Loras College, Fedinec recorded an astounding 11 shutouts, allowing just six goals in 19 matches.

Fedinec has taken on the Steel City identity from day one — tough, unflinching, and at her best when the work gets ugly.

🏴‍☠️The Road Gets Tougher

Steel City Women open the back half of the season sitting second in the table, with a difficult road trip awaiting Sunday against the power-house Rockford Raptors.

The red-n-black claimed a 3-1 victory over Rockford earlier this season behind goals from Thea Gerfen, Breanna Herlihy and Mariana Pinto. Herlihy fueled the attack adding two assists.

But winning in Rockford presents an entirely different challenge.

AFTER THE WHISTLE

The result mattered.

Riverlight FC took a 1-0 win in a match with major implications in the title race.

But look around after the final whistle.
Nearly 400 in the stands. Kids waiting for autographs.

Plenty of clubs roll a ball onto a field. How many are building nights like this around women's soccer?

Just a few snapshots from a record women’s crowd at Slammers Stadium.

🏴‍☠️TABLE TOPPERS

Steel City Women knocked off defending UWS2 champion Rockford Raptors 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Providence Catholic - and with two of eight matches down, the title race is alive.

Rockford finished 7W-1L last season and beat Steel City 2-0 a year ago. But those who’ve been around this team since their semi-professional debut last season has watched the hardening.

The Lincoln-Way East connection opened the scoring early. In the 4th minute, Bre Herlihy slipped Thea Gerfen for the opener. Gerfen was a standout all afternoon for the red-n-black.

Herlihy buried one herself on the hour. Mariana Pinto added insurance to overwhelm the champions.
In goal, Hannah Fedinec was outstanding - stuffing multiple 1-v-1 breaks to keep momentum firmly in Steel City’s hands.

Bre Herlihy keeps showing up in the biggest moments. After a goal and assist in Week One, Steel City’s all-time leading scorer followed it with a goal and two assists Saturday. It’s seven goals and four assists all-time for the club.

The sides meet again June 28 in Rockford. But for now, the race is on.
