BEHIND THE SCENES: Last night, choreographer @hannah__echols had a very special rehearsal for her fall piece. Below is her take on the night- “My piece, ‘For the Good Times,’ is about the freedom, love, and joy from my grandparents’ lives, specifically from their time at Camp Rucker in 1955. I wanted to bring my grandfather to one of my rehearsals to have him talk about life in the 50s and the love that he shared with my grandmother. We performed the piece for him and were able to see the piece from the eyes of our plot’s hero. I heard from many dancers that having my grandfather watch the piece put a whole new spin on the performance aspect of ‘For the Good Times.’ They were inspired by the stories of adventure and love from my grandfather, and now they can take that experience and the experiences they heard from my grandfather and implement it into their performance. At the end of rehearsal, we turned on the soundtrack and danced freely to the music. And this time, my grandfather joined in on the fun. He got up and quick-stepped and slow danced with me and the dancer who plays his wife, Lily Everett. Everyone was in tears by the end. We had a wonderful rehearsal and I know this experience will change how the dancers see and perform ‘For the Good Times.’”

Grief comes in many forms and is uniquely felt by each individual. Although the pain of our loss will not completely subside, we continue onward with courage, remembering the love, friendship, and laughter that was given to us in the hope that this will be our guide throughout the grieving process, understanding that pain will someday be replaced by the fondest of memories.
