You might have seen a colourful photo across our NEW shop windows at 67 Dyke Road over the past few months of quietly refurbing behind it… Meet Martin Burton @martinjamesburton — our coffeeshop regular flat white drinker, turned friend and a talented local photographer specialising in corporate, portraits and reportage. Martin and his partner moved to the Dials only about a year ago and have very much left there mark on our hearts instantly and meaningful staples at Hi Cacti. 🌵 When we saw his Brighton Pride photo, we knew it captured the fun, vibrant spirit of our beloved home and city. So, as we keep the secrets of our new venue under wraps, we decided to leave it in our window for the community to enjoy following our Hi-Dration Station this Pride. Meet our amazing speakers for Art Department 101! 🎨 ❤️‍🔥 Saturday speakers: @elenaaa.m began her journey in the arts after an English degree led her to the film world. She’s worked on award-winning shorts like Standby, music videos for Arlo Parks, Dave & Mumford & Sons, and commercials for Samsung & Asics. She’s since dived into long-form projects like Scrapper (Sundance winner), Sky Peals (Venice Film Fest), and ITVX’s Count Abdulla. @hannahbackshall is an Art Director & Production Designer across narrative, music videos & ads. She’s collaborated with Tribeca-winning directors, BAFTA-nominated teams, and brands like Tanqueray & Nike. Credits include Scrapper, Channel 4’s Queenie, and Confidence Man’s album artwork. ❤️‍🔥 Sunday speakers: @lorahmc moved to London 12 years ago and has since brought stories to life in film, events & TV. She recently Art Directed Paramount+’s Curfew and BFI/BBC’s Lollipop, with a rich background in short films and commercials. @katieesthersouth is a multidisciplinary Production Designer working across music videos, commercials, and narrative. With a Fine Art background, she brings a hands-on, proactive approach—collaborating with Netflix, Greenpeace, BAFTA, and artists like Self Esteem & Olivia Dean. Applications have now closed for our Art Department 101 Workshop. However, please keep an eye out for our future workshops! Our workshop series is designed to help newcomers to the film industry. Our aim is to make the film industry more accessible by bridging the knowledge gap between industry professionals and those just starting out.
