For this week’s Fitness Focus Friday, NETA Ambassador and Certified Group Exercise Instructor @hapachhayley is sharing a weighted upper body shoulder strength sequence with us she uses to maintain good posture, improve stability, and perform everyday activities with greater control.

Grab some light dumbbells, and swipe to read about each movement!➡️

🔗Head to the link in our bio to read Hayley’s full post, “Stronger Bodies Start with a Stronger Foundation” and save this workout for your next training session!

L-Raises:
A dynamic variation, where one arm lifts straight out to the front while the other lifts to the side, forming an “L” shape at the top. Alternating sides challenges your coordination and forces your core to stabilize against asymmetrical weight.

Overhead Press:
The overhead press develops shoulder and upper-body strength while challenging your core to stabilize your body. Keep your ribs controlled and press with intention.

Bent-Arm Lateral Raises:
By keeping a fixed 90-degree bend at your elbows as you lift your upper arms to shoulder height, you shorten the lever arm. This takes stress off your joints, and allows you to isolate the side deltoids with precision and control.

Overhead Arm Circles:
Don’t underestimate the burn! Small, but controlled circles create plenty of time under tension and are a great way to build shoulder stability and dynamic endurance.

Scaption Raises:
Lifting at a 30-degree forward angle in a natural “V” shape, this subtle angle keeps your shoulders in their natural movement plane. Which makes this movement a safe, joint-friendly way to target both the front and side deltoids.

“Sometimes all it takes is embracing the shakes.” - NETA Ambassador Hayley Hapach

As a dancer, Hayley learned early on that building a strong foundation outside the studio completely changed the way she moved inside it. Now, she uses her NETA certification to teach part-time allowing her to do what she loves, help others push out of their comfort zones, and earn an income that aligns perfectly with her academic goals.

For this week’s Fitness Focus Friday, NETA Ambassador and Certified Group Exercise Instructor @hapachhayley is taking over to share the lower body sequence she uses to cross-train as a university dance major.

The movement sequence (Grab a loop band!):
• Glute Bridges with Abduction: Targets gluteus maximus development while engaging the gluteus medius at the top of the movement to reinforce hip alignment.

• Elevated Tabletop with Abduction: Placing hands on a block shifts your center of gravity, forcing the deep core and quads to stabilize while the outer glutes work against the resistance.

• Fire Hydrants: Isolates the posterior chain, emphasizing controlled hip extension while maintaining a strong, neutral spine.

• Donkey Kick to Crossover Taps: Enhances dynamic hip mobility and coordination, challenging the stabilizing hip just as much as the moving leg.

• Straight-Leg Raises: Increases time under tension to finish off the sequence, refining terminal hip extension and muscle endurance.

Dancers are athletes that require the same level of strength training and care as any other sport. Whether you’re cross-training for a specific passion or just looking to level up your functional fitness, consistency always wins over perfection. Show up and lean into the discomfort!

Welcome to the brain. Please keep your hands, feet, and emotions inside the ride at all times - or don’t…This is where EVERYTHING is processed and NOTHING goes according to plan. What may be offered with clarity is received with doubt. Signals change before they land. And control passes quietly, as clarity scatters. Lingering in the fragile space where perception and intention fail to align, reality limbos. Junior double major in Dance and Psychology, Olivia Astbury, explores how miscommunication emerges and expands. Through her piece - Close Enough 🤷🏼‍♀️, Olivia aims to tell the stories of what gets lost in translation. Olivia would like to thank her ambitious and dedicated cast of thirteen wonderful girls, as well as her incredible mentor Bailey Grayson, for their authenticity and support. In this space of near understanding, you are invited to witness the beauty - and the tension, of what remains misconstrued. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Always thankful for my opportunities from the @utampadance program ❤️
