We are excited to share the first still from our recent short film shoot The Weight of Blue, produced through our production company, Aberrant Gene Films.

Written by Zara Bell, Weight of Blue is a 20-minute short that explores the emotional cost of masking as a female with autism — and the quiet courage it takes to be seen without disguise.

Logline:
A young autistic woman battles sensory overwhelm, social expectations, and the burden of masking — until a quiet reckoning offers her the chance to be seen without disguise.

Zara, an emerging neurodivergent actor and writer, developed the script as part of her MA in Acting at the University of East London. I worked with her as Coach and Script Editor, and watched her shape the story with clarity, vulnerability, and deep emotional insight.

We invited a number of my current Coachees and BADA Graduates to collaborate — both in front of and behind the camera:
✨ Jessica Hardern – 1st AD (BADA Graduate 2024)
✨ Lucja Hawking – Bartender + Production Assistant (BADA Graduate 2024)
✨ Faith Lovell – Waitress (BADA Graduate 2024)
✨ Janet Law – Customer 2 (BADA Graduate 2025)
✨ Bradley Middleton – Doctor (BADA Graduate 2025)
✨ Max Blackburn – Hayden (Current Coachee)
✨ Graham Lewis – Disgruntled Customer (Current Coachee)

This was not a student project — it was a quiet act of courage.
Zara led with heart and intention. Everyone involved brought their best.
More soon.
—Fay
