On May 1st I received a lovely note from a cat-mom who wanted to honor the memory of her dear departed beloved kitty "Blueberry" who she'd rescued a few years back from the streets.

Blueberry was a FIV+ cat and her mom @harp.smith loved/ loves her so very deeply. On May 13, three years back, despite all the vet care Harper gave, Blueberry passed away.

Thinking how she could honor her memory, I suggested that wouldn't it be great to help so many other cats like her by helping curb NYC's gargantuan homeless #catcrisis by registering to get TNR-certified?

And that's exactly what Harper did today.

And you should as well!

We need more, more, MORE citizen-rescuers to help stop suffering at its source by extensive spay-neuters.

The next Neighborhood & Community Cat tnr workshop is in June. It's free, registration cost is only $10, and even if you miss the day of, you can watch the video within a week, take the simple test, get TNR-certified and help other homeless kitties like Blueberry who even had the trademark ear tip

https://communitycatscentral.thinkific.com/courses/the-neighborhood-cats-tnr-certification-workshop-june-2026

The city hasn't done its job in decades leaving it up to citizen-rescuers to help the million plus homeless, unfixed kitties in this city.

So, be the change. Save innocents. Spread the message of spaying/neutering all companion-animals.

Because THE best way to honor the memory of a beloved rescue kitty is to help others like her 🥲

I told Blueberry's mom I would make this post in her honor. Blueberry's adoptive siblings - the other three in the pic - continue to live very loved lives.

And Blueberry continues to show what lovely soul-cats black FIV+ cats make - both types being the most overlooked in rescues and shelters 😪

Adopt a black cat, adopt a FIV+ cat, and get into becoming rescuers yourselves and learn how to TNR.

Thank you Harper & Blueberry! 🙏🏼🙏🏼💕🥲🥲❤️
