Bondi mass shooting statement from Central West NSW for Palestine

We are horrified by the tragic shooting in Bondi and extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected. Our attention must remain with those who are grieving. Grief deserves respect, care, and space.

All people have the right to feel safe in their communities and during times of worship, gathering, and celebration. Violence against civilians is unacceptable in any form, without exception.

We urge people to refrain from blame, speculation, or spreading unverified narratives while facts are still emerging. False claims only deepen harm at an already painful time.

We acknowledge the extraordinary bravery of first responders and members of the public. Two police officers remain in hospital, many others were injured, and we hold them all in our thoughts. We also recognise the courage of Ahmed Al Ahmed, who risked his life to disarm one of the attackers.

Antisemitism is real and must always be opposed — unequivocally — just as all forms of racism, hatred, and violence must be opposed. But this tragedy must not be weaponised for political gain. Fear-mongering and selective solidarity only deepen division and distract from the shared human loss at the centre of this event. We cannot allow governments to use this tragedy to strip away our democratic rights to gather, speak out, and protest. These freedoms are fundamental — and once lost, they are not easily won back.

Since our inception, we have worked alongside anti-Zionist Jewish community members and prioritised Palestinian and Jewish voices at our events. Our advocacy is grounded in care, safety, and justice for all.

We will continue to stand for the safety and dignity of all people — without hierarchy, without exception.
