I visited the Clay Way Studio Tour, an event I look forward to every year! @claywaystudiotour

Held annually in Connecticut, it’s a wonderful opportunity to visit the studios of many ceramic artists, hear their stories, and purchase their beautiful work.

The fall foliage was also beautiful, making it a lovely day trip from Brooklyn, just two hours away by car. #ceramicstudio #ceramicartist #pottery #brooklynlife

Last week we finished a 9 day workshop firing of our anagama kiln jointly lead by @harrison_lev and @asartoriusceramics for a great group from @gasworksnyc . There was dancing, hard work, big stokes, and plenty of yummy kiln side treats. The kiln is cooling this week as we all wait patiently. Thanks for all the hard work team we can’t wait to see these pots! #contemporaryceramics #contemporaryclay #anagama #firing #hudsonvalleyartist

X-pots out of the electric #kiln. Some experiments are successful and others not but we don’t dwell on our failures here on the Gram. Thanks to @fixpots Jeff Zamek for helping me figure it out. The weather forecast is dire for this weekend’s @berkshirepotterytour, but come by anyway and see me and my pal @marleyreedmade. C’mon, you’re not made of candy 🍭 you won’t melt.

Happy Autumn! We are highlighting some of our artists who work with the deep red and orange earth tones that we tend to see most in the fall season. These colors are often achieved through atmospherical firings, most commonly wood and soda.

Shop the collection in person or online at vesselbyscac.com. Link in bio.

Artists included: Ben Eberle, Dwayne Sackey, Riley McManus, Matt Hyleck, Harry Levenstein

Guest Potter Alert 📣 find @huntercadyart at new Tour stop @harrison_lev’s studio in Great Barrington, MA.

This year’s Tour kicks off next Saturday and Sunday, September 26 & 27 — 10am - 5pm

Swipe to learn more about Hunter Cady’s history and process!

Hunter Cady is a ceramic artist and educator based in the Litchfield Hills of northwest Connecticut. Raised in Barkhamsted, Connecticut, as the eldest son of ceramic artist and educator Kathy Cady, Hunter has been immersed in clay from an early age.

His current work explores the dynamic surfaces created through soda firing, which informs the form, function, utility, and exploration of his vessels.

He earned his BFA from Alfred University in 2020, where he was honored with the Val Cushing Award. Hunter has led classes and workshops at numerous studios throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

He continues to develop his studio practice within the rich tradition of ceramics, combining technique with a deep appreciation for the tactile and aesthetic qualities of the medium.

Studios will be open from 10am to 5pm each day. Admission is free and families are welcome. The potters will be available to talk about their ceramics art and/or to demonstrate techniques. With eight host studios and 8 guest potters, there will be a wide variety of styles shown and many pots and sculpture for sale.

Look for the distinctive orange and white Berkshire Pottery Tour signs at key turns on the weekend of the Tour.

For a couple of years now, I’ve been experimenting with wedging course grog and chicken grit into my clay. No two pots come out the same. I have to let the Clay do what the Clay does (some Band-Aids required). This is the last bunch of pots for the 13th annual @berkshirepotterytour Saturday and Sunday, September 26 27th. @harrison_lev

My work is rooted in traditional techniques of pottery-making, drawing inspiration from folk and fine craft traditions including Japan, England, India, and America. By blending personal experience and sense of place with these influences, I pay homage to the rich multicultural heritage of craft that has shaped our understanding of form and function, and shine a light on the importance of the beautiful, well-crafted, and useful handmade object.
