Entrepreneur and Content Creator @harrisonhide is the co-founder of @joinlonglane, a wellness hotel and private members’ club in West Sussex, which he’s currently working towards opening in late 2026.

He told us why the wellness club opted for padel courts over tennis and what the sport brings to the venue.

Are members’ clubs becoming part of our everyday health routine?

The club used to be somewhere you went to socialise with like-minded people. Now, that same sense of community is increasingly forming around a shared purpose, particularly wellness and longevity.

What once might have meant getting on a plane to Austria or Switzerland is becoming something people want access to within their normal week, because the benefits of living well come from consistency, not the occasional reset.

That shift is changing the role these spaces play in our lives. Wellness is moving out of the retreat and into the routine.

Have we turned wellness into another form of escapism?

A week away, a retreat, a reset, then straight back into the life you needed a break from in the first place.

For @harrisonhide, his years working on Wall Street exposed the other extreme: fast, intense and successful on paper, but with very little space for connection or social wellbeing.

The interesting territory is somewhere between the two. Not disappearing from everyday life to feel better, but changing everyday life so you don’t need to.

Maybe the future of wellness is simply making it feel less like wellness.

Is wellness becoming the new status symbol?

Cars, watches and bags once signalled exclusivity, but social media has made those markers visible everywhere, changing what we aspire to and how we signal success.

Health, fitness and a better way of living are different. They can’t simply be bought overnight, and perhaps that’s exactly why they’re becoming more valuable.

It reflects a wider shift in luxury that feels fundamental to YOO: less about what you own, and increasingly about how you live.

Can a place create a genuine sense of community if it’s designed to appeal to everyone?

Members’ clubs have traditionally been about bringing together like-minded people around a shared identity, but many are beginning to feel less like communities and more like subscriptions.

In trying to create places with the broadest possible appeal, it can be easy to lose the character and conviction that makes people connect with them in the first place.

The strongest places understand who they are for and create an experience, culture and identity around that, rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

What happens when you design a community around how people want to feel, rather than what they expect to find?

At Long Lane, wellness wasn’t added as an amenity. It informed the decisions behind the space from the beginning, including the decision not to serve alcohol.

This raises a much broader question for hospitality and residential design: how much can the environments we create influence the way people behave, connect and spend their time?

Because creating better places isn’t always about adding more; sometimes it’s about designing the conditions for a different way of living.
