What goes on off camera on race day? 👀

We followed Riley Gibbs behind the scenes at the Naples Prelim to give you a sailor’s-eye view of the action. Race day rituals, team antics and a few things you definitely won’t catch on the broadcast.

Consider this your backstage pass. 🎤🇺🇸

Spilling the tea, Giles? 👀☕️

Two Olympic golds, four Finn world titles, and a few things to say about his teammates. We asked our Sailing Director, @gilesscott87, for a little look inside ARC Team USA, and he delivered.

From who keeps the team fired up to who’s hiding snacks on board, Giles pulls back the curtain on the team and gives himself a couple of nominations along the way 🤫

Get to know the athletes beyond racing 👀

We gave them a sentence. They had to finish it.

Conosci gli atleti anche oltre le gare 👀

Abbiamo dato loro una frase. Dovevano completarla.

Ciao Napoli, ci vediamo in primavera! 🇮🇹🇺🇸

Next time we race here, our AC40 will have company: our AC75. This gives the coming months a pretty clear purpose. We trade the Bay of Naples for Pensacola. On the agenda: review the racing, put the lessons into practice and move our AC75 setup forward, with the sailing, shore and technical teams working toward our return in spring.

But before we get back to work: we can reflect on the past couple of weeks here in Naples.

Getting to know the city that will host our first America’s Cup campaign has been part of the experience. Racing with Vesuvius in the background. Espresso at the bar, pizza after long days and a waterfront full of passionate people following the action. Naples has a personality all its own, and we’ve enjoyed spending time here together.

To the race organizers, the America’s Cup team and all the volunteers: thank you for making this regatta happen. To our competitors, thank you for racing that tested us and gave us so much to take forward. And to the people of Naples, thank you for the welcome, the energy and the support along the waterfront.

To every member of ARC Team USA: thank you for the hours, the care and the work behind our first ever race start. From prepping the boat to keeping the whole operation moving, so much of what gets us on the water is never seen. This first regatta belongs to all of you.

Grazie, Napoli.

Fourth overall. A monumental first race win. Fourth overall and plenty to take home from Naples. 🇺🇸

Across eight races, we showed we could nail starts, make up ground and hold a lead against the best. We also made mistakes, lost places and saw how quickly an opportunity can disappear at this level. We leave knowing more about what’s working and where we need to improve.

For a team formed just six months ago, there’s a lot to be proud of. Winning our opening race is something we’ll remember for a long time. So is the way the whole group has approached this first test, backing each other through the good races and the difficult ones.

Our Co-founder Karel Komárek summed it up perfectly: “We’ve demonstrated our ability to compete with the best: nailing starts, making up ground when needed, and even leading and controlling the first race.”

For Co-founder Chris Welch, the people stood out just as much as the performance: “For me, the biggest positive is the incredible team spirit and morale across the entire group. What a start.”

Next up: taking those lessons back to Pensacola. We’ve seen what we can do when we get it right. The work now is doing it more often.

To everyone cheering in Naples, at @sailnewportri, @ussailing and from home: thank you from the bottom of our happy hearts for being part of our first one.

We Are All In. We hope you are too.

A bit of everything out there today.

A great first start, some really strong moments, and a few that didn’t quite go our way. Plenty to look back on, plenty to learn from, and a lot to feel positive about.

Tomorrow is the final day of racing in Naples and the final chapter of our first regatta as ARC Team USA. Another day of figuring out how to get more out of the boat, and each other.

Join us again tomorrow 🇺🇸 Live from 14:00 CEST!
