We did it! @jahnnabeecham and I wrote a play. “The Best Halloween Ever” had its world premiere this past weekend, and it truly was the best, with all the tricks, treats, and heart of Barbara Robinson’s wonderful book. Thank you to @dimitritoscas and the amazing cast for knocking it out of the park! And thank you to @concordshows and @orlandofamilystage for making this all possible, and to Barbara Robinson’s family for trusting us to adapt her hilarious and heart warming words.

Having the playwrights, Barbara Robinson‘s family, and @concordshows with us on opening weekend was a thrill. This supportive team made THE BEST HALLOWEEN EVER a delightful experience I will not soon forget! Also… I love this picture of my cast. It makes me happy. 😊 They’re a TERRIFIC group of talented humans. Thank you for everything you offered to this project. I adore you all. 🥰

Today • the FIRST public performance of THE BEST HALLOWEEN EVER • at @orlandofamilystage • world premiere opening • @jahnnabeecham & @skyehillgartner created a wonderfully charming (and appropriately spooky) Halloween where things aren’t always what they appear to be • it was a joy to direct this production from top to bottom • GREAT cast with a lot of heart • creative team of designers to make the world spring to life • now all that’s left to make an alchemy of magic is YOU!

Okay bear with me!!

There’s been a lot to love about performing Dear Evan Hansen these past six weeks - hearing the cast sing this beautiful score, comfy costumes, getting to growl my way through “Good for You”, having @harveyevans as my partner in almost every scene (like come on!) And the whole process has meant so much to me in so, so many ways. But my favorite part has been the quiet.

Up to this point, I’ve only ever had the experience audience-side: Of sitting in a theatre while everyone present seems to hold their breath. Where time almost stops to allow us all to really, truly breathe in a moment. To just sit in silence. Together.

Those are my all-time favorite moments in theatre. That is what theatre IS, to me. Spending a moment together. That’s what makes theatre different.

To be the one onstage provides a whole new perspective. Because yes, while we might have been the ones controlling the tempo this time around, it’s really up to the audience to be willing to go there with us. To sit with us. To feel with us.

And almost nightly, it reminded me that THAT is what it’s all about.

So to everyone who came and saw the show, to my insanely committed castmates, to the extremely talented (and BUFF!!) crew, and to the creative team who put a lot of faith in me: Thank you for sitting in the quiet with us. It has been an absolute joy. And I will be chasing that feeling until it finds me again. 💙
