October 15: Brought to you by 2018-2019 QAM Fellow Candystore (@agaywhitemale) and DJ Gay Panic, Sexy Loving Original People (SLOP) Salon is a night of performance in NYC committed to experimentation, presence, and exchange for emerging and established artists alike. SLOP Salon performers are invited to present unpolished, unrehearsed, and risky works at the Parkside Lounge in NYC

October 15: 2022 QAM Fellow Anh Vo (@anhqvo) will be presenting Tỳ Bà Hành, the latest installment in their ongoing dialogue with ca trù, at FourOneOne Projects.

Banned in the 20th century by the Communist government because of its perceived associations with elitist antiquity, prostitution and opium culture, very few knowledgeable ca trù practitioners now exist. Together with their teachers, Vo will perform Tỳ Bà Hành (琵琶行 Pipa Song) by the Chinese poet Bai Juyi, a Tang dynasty poem that probes the parallel feelings of exile and loss of status experienced by a demoted government official and an aging female musician.

October 16: Multiyear finalist and 2026 winner of the Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Marcelline Mandeng Nken (@marcellinemandeng) will be opening her solo exhibition “Vesties” at hatred2 on Friday, October 16, with a reception from 6 - 9 PM that evening in Gowanus.

Ongoing through Nov 15: 2020 QAM Fellow Maia Chao (@maia.pologies) is the curator of “An Endless Meeting: Collective Process, Artistic Labor, and the Politics of Working Together,” a multi-pronged project taking place at Vox Populi.

An Endless Meeting activates collective process as subject, form, and method. Spanning exhibitions, a curatorial residency, public programs, and a print publication, the project explores the politics of collectivity, inviting broad publics to reflect on their own experiences of collaboration.

At a time of deep isolation and systemic precarity, An Endless Meeting challenges the myth of the lone genius by foregrounding the messy, negotiated, and profoundly interdependent realities of collective work. The project positions collaboration not only as an artistic strategy, but as a

Burned wood
[Note: “Taper burn marks are deep flame shaped scorch marks often found on the timber beams of early modern houses. They were originally thought to have been accidental, but research suggests that most marks may have been made deliberately, as there is clear patterning of the activity. They are theorised to have been made as part of a folk superstition, then thought to protect the building from fire and lightning.” - Wikipedia]
