“Walt’s Ghost” 👻🐭 Day 3 of 13 Days of Haunted Disneyland!

When you enter Disneyland, you walk under the train tracks. Just after this, on the left side of the street, next to the City Hall restrooms, is the Firehouse. When Walt Disney was alive, he had an apartment on the second floor of this building. He used it as a home base of sorts while the Park was being built and stayed there often after Disneyland opened. He also hosted celebrities and VIPs in his apartment. Whenever Walt was in the Park, he would light a lamp in the Fire Station window to let people know he was there.

Apparently, Walt never left. According to Disney legend, soon after Uncle Walt’s death, in 1966 a cleaning woman was cleaning the apartment and noticed that the lamp was lit. She turned it off and left, only to see it lit in the window when she got outside. She then did what anyone would do in that situation. She went back into the apartment and turned the lamp back off. When she went back outside, the lamp had been relit. She went back again and turned it off, only this time she didn’t leave the apartment. The lamp turned itself back on right in front of her. Nobody has tried to turn the lamp off since. It is left burning to symbolize Walt Disney’s presence in his beloved Disneyland. To this day, Cast Members report footsteps and knocking coming from the Fire Station Apartment, especially at night.

“Death on the People Mover” 👻🐭 Day 2 of 13 Days of Haunted Disneyland!

On June 7, 1980 a young man by the name of Gerardo Gonzales climbed out of the PeopleMover vehicle he was riding in and ran along the track attempting to jump into the next car of flirting girls ahead of him, he lost is footing and was run over by the oncoming car he had just exited.

Here is the actual except from the Los Angeles Times newspaper article. – “Anaheim police investigating the incident said Gonzales was trying to get to another car when he lost his footing and landed on the track. Another train following at a distance of 75 to 100 feet struck him and dragged him until the ride’s operator could be notified to stop the cars, police said. Disneyland officials said the PeopleMover is automatic and the trains run continuously unless the operator intervenes. Disneyland medical personal and Anaheim paramedics were called; the youth was pronounced dead at the scene, apparently from extensive internal injuries. Roth said Gonzalez’s death was the sixth fatal accident in Disneyland’s 25-year history and second involving the PeopleMover. In 1968, another park official recalled another teenager was killed in nearly identical circumstances.”

His body was supposedly dragged for hundreds of feet before a Cast Member noticed. It is said that security was so upset about this latest avoidable tragedy that they made it a point to gather Gonzales’ buddies to show them his gruesome remains on the tracks. The boy’s families sued the park for emotional distress. Since then, Cast Members and guests have reported ghost sightings on and around the PeopleMover tracks.

Late night contract workers doing maintenance in the section that would pass through the Star Trader’s gift shop report seeing a tall dark moving shadow a few feet away from where they are working as well as an intense feeling of being watched. There is a dark oppressive presence felt by many on the track that would pass through the former World of Tron area. The PeopleMover tracks and Tom Sawyer’s Island are two of the most avoided areas of the park by Cast Members and maintenance workers after closing if they can help it.

👻🐭 13 Days of Haunted Disneyland! Day 1 starts off in the most obvious spot. Although there are several spirits that reportedly haunt the Haunted Mansion, one of the first reported ghost stories happened when the Mansion was still being built back in the 1960s. One of the sound designers was in the Séance Room and heard music coming from behind a wall. He thought it was a radio, but there was never any talking or commercials, just eerie music. He kept hearing the music for days. Finally, he decided to just put a speaker near the spot the music was coming from to mask it.

According to some Disneyland Cast Members, the mansion is occupied by more than the imagined 999 happy haunts. Female cast members report ghosts that untie the ribbons in their hair. Also props move from one side of a room to the other. There are behind-the-scenes rooms in the attraction that are so creepy employees avoid going inside.

There is also a fairly well known story about a woman of a 7-year old boy who came to the Haunted Mansion to sprinkle her son’s ashes since it was his dying wish was to be one of the ghosts of the mansion. She was told she could not, but apparently she snuck back and scattered her son’s ashes anyway. After that, several guests have reported to cast members that there is a little kid wandering around the ballroom scene. Other concerned guests have reported seeing a little boy standing alone at the exit and crying, saying that when they asked him if he needed help, he acted like they weren’t there. Safe to say he didn’t want to be a Haunted Mansion Ghost after all.

Apparently spreading your loved ones ashes at the Disney parks is nothing new. As a matter of fact the cast members even have a special code they use to report when it happens. Can so many traces of human remains scattered haphazardly and unceremoniously be the cause for so many reports of ghostly activity? We’ll talk more about that in a later post.

Is there a better way to celebrate the release of a paranormal rom-com about ghost tour guides than to go on a ghost tour?! I think not! 👻

Thank you @heartboundbookshop for hosting such a wonderful event! Christian with @hauntedorangecounty did such a wonderful job hosting our tour, truly loved it. Then, the event afterwards was fantastic: @mariamillagewrites was an excellent moderator, and @mallorymarlowewrites & Maria were hilarious! 🧡

Watch for some sights from the tour (and a short but fitting clip from something a ghost said in the middle), & @mallorymarlowewrites introducing her book at the end.

⭐️QOTD: if you were to go on a ghost tour, which city would you want to do one in?

📖 What happens when you combine two of my favorite things? The best Saturday night!! 👻

Last night was a blast starting with a ghost tour from @hauntedorangecounty where we walked around Fullerton learning about its spooky history.

Afterwards there was an author talk with @mallorymarlowewrites to celebrate her newest book Entities to Lovers 📖 I absolutely fell in love with Mallory Marlowe’s first two books and can’t wait to dive into this one!

And of course I couldn’t arrive empty handed. I made a cute little bookshelf ghost (pattern by @sweet.little.buddies ) to gift to Mallory Marlowe. She is one of my must read authors and I was so excited to celebrate her newest book 👻 (which funnily enough js about two ghost tour guides 👀)

Thank you to @heartboundbookshop for hosting the event and @barstoolsandbotanicals for being my date for the night 💚
