Let’s start with how it ended…

After a great chat, all @spillmyink could think about was getting another Turquoise Cowboy cocktail 🥃🩵

I’ll take that as a compliment! Here’s the recipe:

• 1½ oz Arette Reposado
• ½ oz Amaro Sfumato
• ½ oz Nixta Licor de Elote
• ¼ oz Disaronno
• 2 dashes Crude “Big Bear” bitters
• A pinch of salt

INSTRUCTIONS:
Stirred. Served over a big rock. Finished with orange peel.

Thank you again to @cherriesnash for hosting! Full episode of Pour Taste In Music with Ink drops this week. Stay tuned!

Whatever’s been keeping me down is still kicking. So another hot toddy it is - but not just any hot toddy of course. This is one you’re going to want to save to your “winter warmers” list.

I knew I would love the Monte Bove because: (1) it’s an @amoryamargo cocktail; (2) scotch and apricot is one of my favorite combinations; and (3) I love Punch Fantasia.

This drink would be perfect not only for when you’re not feeling your tip-top self, but on any chilly day or night when you want to feel super cozy. Cheers!

Monte Bove (by @czech.please and found on @imbibe )

.75 oz blended Scotch (@compassboxwhiskyco Orchard House)
.75 oz @varnelli1868 Punch Fantasia
.5 oz apricot liqueur (@hausalpenz )
2 oz hot water - I preferred this MUCH more with about 4-5 oz of water, but YMMV, especially depending on the ABV of your Scotch (mine was 46%)

A fun night of cocktailing produced this cool photo of one of my favorite whiskey recipes and us bustin out the Death & Co book to find a new recipe. Well, it was new to me but not my buddy since he loves it.

The whiskey recipe is Mistakes Were Made (pic 1) which is an original of mine and it’s just damn good. I’m sure my friends get sick of it but I don’t care because it’s that good.

Think of the tastiest Old Fashioned variation you’ve ever had. The name makes me laugh also so that’s a bonus. It’s a base of bourbon, but use whatever whiskey you like. I’m sure it would be good with any whiskey type. The combination of banana, walnut and Allspice liqueur coupled with bourbon is money. But throw in black walnut, vanilla and angostura bitters with a little simple syrup and that well-balanced baby is like buttah 🧈.

The Death & Co. recipe we tried is called Los Amargos (pic 2). It’s a tequila (Reposado) cocktail balanced with a couple of Amaros (Nonino & Cardamaro) and maraschino liqueur. It adds some lemon juice for a citrus flare. It was good, but the citrus was a little too prominent which made it flat. We added some strawberry syrup (Fashionola by Cocktail & Sons) to give it a bit more depth and it worked and was quite good. You never know what’s going to balance out a recipe that’s not working so keep trying. Usually we get there when you get the citrus or sugar right.

I’d recommend trying both of these at home. They’re delish. Do it!! Salute 🎩

Mistakes Were Made

2 oz bourbon
1/2 oz banana liqueur
1/4 oz walnut liqueur
Barspoon Allspice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Black walnut bitters
Vanilla bitters
Angostura bitters

Los Amargos

1.5 oz. Reposado Tequila
3/4 oz. Amaro Nonino
3/4 oz. Cardamaro
Barspoon Maraschino Liqueur
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice (I would start with 1/2 oz.)
1/4 oz. Strawberry Syrup or just use simple

You’ve never seen a cocktail competition like RE:MIX!

I’m giving 3 Nashville bartenders a shot at $1,000. One bartender gets eliminated before the competition even starts, and the two finalists have to battle through a mystery basket and surprise ingredients.

One of them will walk away with $1,000.

It’s kinda like Chopped, but with welcome cocktails and a funk/neo-soul DJ set from @funknightnashville.

So… who’s gonna win?

Clear Skies
Clarified milk punch with @suntorytoki Japanese whiskey, @planterayrum coconut, @hausalpenz all spice, @liquidalchemist orgeat, cinnamon, lime

Fun fact: this cocktail is the best thing I’ve ever created in my opinion. If you know you know.
Also the sky was definitely against me that day

Three judges. Three very different perspectives. And one bartender walking away with $1,000. 💸

For RE:MIX No.3, the judging panel is:

🥸 Jason Sorbet (Partner, Barrel Proof & Love’s Alibi)
🎤 Mike Floss (Rapper & Community Organizer)
🥃 Ethan Bunce (KY Distillery Ambassador, Old Forester)

They’ll help decide which bartender survives the first round and, eventually, which finalist takes home the $1,000 prize directly from my bank account 🤪

Oh, and a fourth judge spot is reserved for the bartender who gets eliminated first. So… you know… revenge?

RE:MIX No. 3
Mother’s Ruin (Upstairs)
7-9:30p // THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15
🥃 Old Forester Bourbon
🎶 Funk & Neo-Soul dj set by @funknightnashville

Three bartenders. One mystery basket. One hour. $1,000 on the line.

🎟️ Tickets are on sale now. Link in bio.
