You can prepare your body for something and still not know what it will ask of you.

This was my season goal: to podium in my age group at Haute Route—the most epic and competitive masters road stage race in the world.

My preparation was grounded in research and shaped by my love of, and experience with, stage racing.

But this race asked for everything.

There were days when I felt incredibly strong, when years of racing experience allowed me to trust my pacing, instincts and body. And there were moments when fatigue, pain, illness and the sheer magnitude of seven consecutive days—each covering 182–100 km and 8,200–2,000 m of elevation gain—stripped everything down to something much simpler:

Keep moving forward.
Just finish.

The first half of the race went according to plan, and I built a considerable lead in second place overall. But by the final days, I was racing sick and injured. I had to adapt, protect what I had built and keep moving forward—knowing when to push, when to protect, when to let go, when to eat even when I didn’t want to, and when to change the plan.

Because you can arrive with a strategy, but racing happens in real time.

I’ve learned that it’s not over until it’s over.

Despite the illness, injury and everything the race demanded, I secured second place on the final podium—at the top of my 10-year age group and 16th overall female. For my first time taking on this challenge, it was a massive win.

But what made this event so special was that everyone arrived with a mission. Whatever that mission was, we were all in it together. Every start line became a source of strength, and every finish line became a celebration—not just of our own achievements, but of what we had overcome together.

Somewhere deep into a seven-day race, you realize there is another kind of fitness that doesn’t show up on a power curve:

The ability to listen to your body, adapt, modify the plan, refuse to give up, stick with it one pedal stroke at a time, and draw strength from the people beside you.

Thank you, @hauteroutefrance for an unforgettable experience.#stageracing #bikeracergirl #nextleveltraining #hauteroute @hmbrowncycling @hauteroutefrance

Preparation for @hauteroutefrance has been going well. Latest training update video is live on YouTube where I plan to take in the same elevation as the Col d’Izoard, which I’ll be tackling in the ride.

Pas long, mais intense. ✨
