First weekend of May we jetted off to DC to surprise the Shockley kids. We had so much fun enjoying them in their element! They live in an iconic neighborhood that was once land for one of George Washington’s farms. There are kids everywhere, riding bikes, playing in the yard and the whole gang walks together to the neighborhood school. It felt like neighborhoods when I was a kid! We spent a leisurely Sunday afternoon strolling the National mall and getting in a few games of baseball. At the last minute we decided to see how long the wait would be to view the Declaration of Independence. We breezed right in and even got a little history lesson from one of the security guards. Everyone should see those documents and refresh our memory regarding the history of our country. I was in awe and a bit teary eyed. We walked Baker and Remi to school before heading home. Our time with the Shockley fam was short but oh so sweet! @hay.shock @herb_b

We had an epic weekend last week with family at the farm house, capped off with an awesome believer’s baptism service at Canopy - including a grandmother, a married couple, and two of my grandsons! I know a name - He calls people from the grave! JESUS

Happy Birthday to me! After church Doug and Diana gave us Friends and Family tickets to the Blue Angels air show in Branson since their son, Josh, pilots the C-130 Fat Albert. Then the girls gave us tickets to see Tim McGraw at the Thunder Ridge Amphitheater! What a jam packed birthday celebration all in one day!

In May, @herb_b and I celebrated 40 years of marriage. We celebrate the beginning of 38 years of parenting in October and 11 years of grandparenting in September. Herb is my best friend and love. He accepted the mantle of “girl dad” with gusto and each one of his 11 grands brings him such joy and pride. He thrives in the outdoors and loves Jesus deeply. A bonus of being parents of girls, is the gift of son-in-laws. We are blessed with three of the best who also love Jesus and give with abundance of time and effort to their families. Happy Father’s Day to my favorites!

Traveling in June from the east coast, to the mountains and even to the middle. I got to celebrate Baker’s Grand Prix 5th birthday in Alexandria, we watched some baseball on the night of the Strawberry moon in Springfield and then headed to Colorado to lay eyes on my Nielsen family. Blaire is “enjoying” a lengthy stay at the hospital trying to keep baby from coming too early. I’m so grateful each of my girls have a strong network of friends! Blaire is in a fantastic hospital that allows the girls to have sleepovers and she has friends that have organized a meal train, play dates, visits and so much encouragement. They even added rugs, pillows, plants and lights to make her room more cozy! At 31 weeks we’re praying that babe grows at bit more in the womb! Philippians 4:8

Haley Shockley is a mom of two, fellow military spouse and Christian, and creator behind Scripted Desire, her online shop that helps you celebrate life’s little occasions through digital downloads, paper goods and handcrafted seasonal décor. Oh...and she’s my best friend!

Haley talks about how her love for creating beautiful things and finding joy in the mundane can be such an easy way to show God’s intentionality. She even made me cry when talking about how God specifically creates beautiful things, and we should enjoy them! In the spirit of authenticity and girl talk, welcome Haley Shockley!
