🚨 Hermosa Beach Program Update from Culture Club South Bay 🌊

After months of planning and community conversations, we made the difficult decision to postpone the launch of our Hermosa Beach youth camp this spring due to funding constraints.

Launching a new coastal access program requires the right level of support to do it responsibly and sustainably. While we worked hard to secure that support, we were not able to reach the funding needed in time for this season.

The good news is that our Bruce’s Beach program in Manhattan Beach will move forward this spring as planned, continuing to provide surf, beach volleyball, education, arts, and community experiences for youth across Los Angeles County.

Every year we meet diverse students who live just miles from the Pacific Ocean yet have never surfed, stepped on a beach volleyball court, or learned how to safely navigate the ocean. And to learn that the beach is for everyone. These experiences build confidence, connection, and belonging. That work continues.

Hermosa Beach remains very much part of the vision.
We will continue working with community partners and supporters to bring this program to life when the right funding is in place.

We have submitted the team but need to know if you are in or not. Entry fees due on January 12. Let me know if you need a camp spot for Friday and Saturday.

Pierside Plumbing Huntington Beach making quick fixes on the spot
.
They say to be the best you’ve got to have the best tools. But even with the best tools, you can still end up in a tough situation. I’ve been running my Flexshaft for a long time and it usually performs great, but this time the pipe fought back. The cable bound up deep in the line, and by the time I got it out, the end was trashed.
.
Instead of calling it a day, I did a little Flexshaft surgery. Cut back the sleeve about two feet, found a clean section of cable, locked it into my tow hitch vise, and soldered about eight inches so it was solid again. Hit it with the grinder, cleaned up the end, reinstalled the chain knocker, and within 45 minutes we were back in business.

“OFFICIAL” KOLBY AIPA PADDLE OUT INFORMATION
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD
This is everything you need to know for KOLBY’S PADDLE OUT and KOLBY’S CELEBRATION OF LIFE gathering. Please read carefully and share with anyone planning to attend.

The Paddle Out Saturday, September 20th, starts promptly at 9am, Northside of the HB Pier, on the sand by Lifeguard tower #2...
but everyone is strongly encouraged to be there by 8am. On the same day, Wallapalooza will be going on, which is going to take up half of the beach, take up half the pier and close down the Northside parking lot. So please plan ahead and get there early to find parking and a good spot.

At 9am, Duke Aipa and Jones Pai blow Puu horns..
Kalani Hawaiian prayer..
Val Aipa, Sky Aipa and Pai Grandkids sing..
Sher Pai opening prayer..
Aaron Pai welcomes everyone and begins the ceremony.
We have some very special guest speakers:
PT, Andy Verdone, Chirs Moreno, Billy Webb, Konrad Ferber, Duke Aipa, Val Aipa and
Sky Aipa.

At 9:45am, we will begin to all paddle out into the water!
If you or anyone needs help we will have the HB Lifeguards along with surf coaches to assist.
Please get out there swiftly, safely and efficiently!
Stay close to the Pier (part of the circle)
Circle will be drifting to the North (depending on the swell). Stay attached to the Pier if we can (so friends and family on the Pier can hear and see).
10am to 10:15am, Duke Aipa will be doing the Blessing in the water
Duke, Val and Skyler will release beautiful Kolby back into the ocean, earth and heavens.

Most of us should be back on the sand around 10:30am-10:45am..
no rush..
just plenty of “Love”..

Then, at 1pm, after the Paddle Out..
Duke, Val and Sky Aipa will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Kolby at Memorial Hall, 1718 Orange Ave, HB (17th and Orange)..
1pm-4pm.
Plenty talk story by friends and family!
Everyone is invited!
