The PV of 'Everything is Never Enough' at The Phoenix was fascinating. Seeing the research and processes behind the work of so many of my lecturers was right on point as I dive into research-based art practices on my MA.

Even my daughter was impressed!

@fergusheron's work was thoughtful as always, and I had a wonderful chat with @martinseeds.s.l—so informative and personable. It was incredible to see @rachelkgillies, @hbirtles, and @asajohannes show the thinking behind their process, with each piece standing so strongly in its own right.

Specifically derived for Photo Fringe 2026, this work exposes the processes behind research-based art practices that have photography at their core. The materials on display are presented not simply as evidence of process but as works of enquiry in their own right.

‘Everything is Never Enough’ opens this week at @phoenix_artspace in Brighton for @photofringe. PV Thursday 22 Oct 6-8pm.

I will be showing ‘A Queer Archive of Making’ - research materials from the making of ‘The Queering of Photography’

This group exhibition comprises works by artists Holly Birtles @hbirtles Rachel K Gillies @rachelkgillies, Fergus Heron @fergusheron and Martin Seeds @martinseeds, and myself.

Specifically derived for Photo Fringe 2026, this exhibition exposes the processes behind research-based art practices that have photography at their core. The materials on display are presented not simply as evidence of process but as works of enquiry in their own right.

The exhibition takes its title from the Goldfrapp song ‘Everything is Never Enough.’ For the artists, the phrase describes a condition of making, and proposes a dialogue with photography as an illusion of plenitude while fragmentary and incomplete; an enquiry – a process of making anew in order to ask what else is there; a context – where iteration and feedback form a continual state of becoming; and a surrender – an imperative to keep enquiring without the promise of a linear path towards resolution. To make is to look again, to try again.

🎞️ Brilliant time today exploring this year’s theme *Un/Stable Lands, Anxieties, Dreams* at the University of Brighton @uobphotography ! Truly a thought-provoking celebration of photography, place and possibility.

Here’s Uni of Brighton’s Holly Birtles @hbirtles (whose photo is one of the signature images) sharing her series, “Fighting Fish,” which is her evocative work exploring “ecological fragility, transforming rivers, bodies and living forms into haunting visions of environmental change” as the festival invites us to look at the world around us in new and unexpected ways.

Dark Matters and Other Geographies is a group exhibition of photography and moving image from members of the photography research group at the University of Brighton (@uobphotography) exploring related ecological, environmental and psychological themes.

The exhibition presents work with wide ranging subjects and approaches, from fictional creatures and real animal traces, visible and invisible human bodies, to pictures from closely encountered present locations and appropriated archival images from past expeditions to remote places.
