A special night with a hockey legend! 🏒⭐️

Members of the UNB REDS Women’s Hockey team had the opportunity to meet one of the game’s all-time greats, Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser, on Thursday evening.

Wickenheiser, who is being recognized by UNB with an honorary doctorate, spent time with members of the team at a special reception.

A special moment for our REDS to connect with a true legend of the game! 🇨🇦

Every young hockey player has someone they look up to. Someone who inspires them to work harder, dream bigger, and believe that one day, they too can accomplish something great. Getting the chance to meet that person is something they’ll remember for years to come.

Last night, our very own Rink Rebel, Ava, got to experience exactly that.

Ava had the opportunity to meet her idol, the legendary Hayley Wickenheiser, who was in Fredericton to receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of New Brunswick.

Hayley was incredibly kind, down to earth, and generous with her time. She had a great conversation with Ava, making the experience even more meaningful.

When Ava presented Hayley with a gift from the Rink Rebels, Hayley mentioned that she had actually been talking about the Rink Rebels earlier that very day!

For a small program right here in Fredericton, built on the belief that all girls deserve a place to belong in hockey, hearing that from someone who has done so much for the women’s game means a lot.

A huge congratulations to Hayley on this well deserved honour, and thank you for taking the time to connect with Ava.

Before leaving, Ava even invited Hayley back to Fredericton to spend some time on the ice with the Rink Rebels. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!

Who would love to see Hayley Wickenheiser back in Fredericton sometime soon, maybe even joining some Rebels on the ice?

One of the highlights of the IAAO Annual Conference last week was having the opportunity to reconnect briefly with Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser, who delivered the conference keynote address.

Her speech was excellent, both relatable and genuinely inspiring. It was a real pleasure to hear her share her insights with the audience.

I’d also had the chance to meet Dr. Wickenheiser briefly back in 2008, during her incredible run as a key member of Canada’s women’s hockey team, which won four consecutive Olympic gold medals.

Looking back at the photos from 2008 and 2026, I’d say we both look pretty much the same, right? 😜

When one of the greatest players in women’s hockey history is cheering on the Wesleyan Wolves, you know it’s a BIG deal! 🏒💜🐺

Four Olympic gold medals. Seven World Championships. Hockey Hall of Famer. The first woman to play full-time professional men’s hockey in a position other than goaltender. Canadian hockey legend @hchickwick has quite the resume!

She’s spent her career breaking barriers, both on and off the ice, and paving the way for generations of athletes. And, as Wesleyan makes history with its inaugural women’s hockey team, having the support of someone who helped change the game for women in sports makes this moment even more special!

Hayley’s cheering on the Wolves, and you should be, too!

Join us TOMORROW, Friday, October 23, at 7:00 PM, as Wesleyan takes on Georgia Southern at the Macon Coliseum!

While Kucherov may not have worded it perfectly, that doesn’t mean he was wrong.

Hockey IQ isn’t necessarily about how quickly you react. It’s about how well you anticipate what happens next. At the highest level, that anticipation becomes almost subconscious. The best players aren’t chasing the play, they’re reading it before it develops, recognizing patterns and positioning themselves to stay one step ahead.

They don’t just keep up with the pace of the game. They learn how to control it. Learn more on the Wick Hockey App.
