“Can you tell me how to get” to meaningful connections across generations? 💛 Last spring, Colorado State University became the first college or university in the nation to pilot 3G Mentoring, an intergenerational program that brings together preschoolers, CSU students, and older adults to learn from one another through activities inspired by Sesame Street. Over eight weeks, participants met weekly at CSU's Early Childhood Center to watch short Sesame Street lessons and engage in conversations and activities centered on Cookie Monster's five Cs: connection, communication, confidence, creativity, and collaboration. The result? Joyful conversations and opportunities to create meaningful connections across generations while providing opportunities for learning and growth at every stage of life! As the program expands in Fort Collins this year, it's proving that some of life's best lessons happen when we take a stroll down a different kind of Sesame Street together. 💛 Three participants sit in a small discussion circle in a community room. One participant holds a clipboard and pen while facing a child seated nearby, and another participant holds a clipboard with markers. Additional participants are seated in the background.

The fall involvement expo took place on the LSC Plaza this week, Tuesday through Thursday, and it was such a success! 💛📚📝 A combined total of over 250 student organizations, departments, and volunteer agencies were present throughout the week, which was open for student engagement and involvement from 10:00 to 2:00 each day.   By connecting with Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), University departments, and community agencies that offer volunteer opportunities, students can leave their mark at @CSU through various involvement opportunities while discovering resources and services. Students, tell us your favorite student organization you got the opportunity to introduce or reintroduce yourself to at the involvement expo!

Life doesn’t always follow a straight path, and neither did Angel Brinkerhoff’s journey to graduation. 💚 After first starting college in 1998, Angel spent years raising a family, moving across the country, homeschooling her youngest son, and balancing life before deciding it was finally time to finish her degree through CSU Online. She did it all while juggling classes, internships, coaching middle school track, and family life. Now, Angel is graduating as the Spring 2026 CSU Online Outstanding Graduate, proving it’s never too late to chase a goal that matters. 🎓 Her biggest motivation the entire time? Her family. She wanted to show her kids that no matter how long the journey takes, you can still finish strong. As Angel puts it, “No matter how long ago you start, it’s possible to finish.” 🔗 Link in our bio to read more about Angel’s inspiring story. Meet Jazzy Carson, another one of our Educator Preparation Alumni and a proud Early Childhood and Education Ram! Additionally minoring in Human Development and Family Studies, Jazzy hopes to teach first grade. Having experience working with small children in high school, Jazzy loved seeing her students learn from her, and grow their skills. She also found inspiration from her own teachers, wanting to make her classes feel loved and supported in the way they did for her. Want to learn more about Jazzy? Read her Q+A below 👇 Q: What do you love most about teaching? A: I love seeing how students develop and how they use those skills when they become adults. Recognizing how all students learn differently, figuring out what they love, and integrating it into the lessons is a passion for me. This is why I am excited to teach. Q: How is the Educator Preparation Program at CSU helping you become a better teacher? A: The Education Program at CSU has helped me learn from diverse practicum sites and teachers and expand my knowledge, preparing me to become an Elementary Teacher. I’ve had amazing teachers in this program who have supported me every step of the way. Q: What has been your favorite CSU experience? A: My favorite CSU experience was finding out who my student teacher mentor was and getting to meet all the students at their winter party. Another great experience was touring CSU and feeling at home when I came to the University. We love to see it! You’re going to have an amazing future, Jazzy! 🐏💚✨ Jazzy Carson at a CSU Football game. What an exciting day at CURC! We’re very proud of the many students who participated in this year’s Celebrate Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase! SOC major Tea Benzenberg and @hdfscsu students Ashlyn Murray, Isabel Pineda, and Trinity Yamagata teamed up to research, analyze, and present “Beyond the Home: Foster Care Experiences.” Special thanks to their mentor Dr. Janelle Viera! The team’s abstract: In the United States, the majority of foster parent families are white, married women over the age of 30. In contrast kids in foster care come from various diverse backgrounds with Black and American Indian and Alaska Native children continuing to be overrepresented. This leaves little room for diversity in race, gender, and social class to be represented in a huge federal system. This study highlights the importance of intersectionality and how race, gender, and class shape the foster care experience. Our research highlights how systematic inequalities extend far beyond a child’s experience. Systematic inequalities in the foster care system reach into the idea of the placement process, access to resources for children in foster care, the role of children’s identities and disabilities affecting their foster care placement process and journey. This topic is important to address the inequalities that children in the foster system face due to their intersectional identities. We chose to present this information in poster format to fully illustrate the disparities across various identities. We want to show clear statistics and past research that illustrate these systematic inequalities. By centering the lived experiences of marginalized youth, the research highlights the ways social identities create challenges for all of those involved in the foster care system. Furthermore, this research also highlights the intersectional framework in policies and institutional systems. Stay tuned for posts featuring more SOC students and their hard work!
