Rainy season 2017. 1) Big party on the bus to Juigalpa 2) Xolotlán Lake from Managua 3) Lava after monsoon rain 4) Volcán Telica 5) Back to San Jacinto 6) Léon cathedral 7) Volcán Masaya 8) Isla de Ometepe by scooter 9) Climbing Volcán Concepción 10) San Juan del Sur The room of the hostel has water coming in. Hurricane Nate made landfall. We make our way in the dark through flooded streets. I fall in a sewer thinking it was a foothpath. There's a bus to Costa Rica. We wait for hours at the Peñas Blancas border. Roads are destroyed. The tropical cyclone is the costliest natural disaster in Costa Rican history. We try a bus to San José but get stuck in traffic for hours and start to walk on the highway towards the town of Orotina. There I signal as many people as I can. Two vans can get us and fellow travellers to the airport. We get there via small secondary roads. We sleep in the terminal. The next day, the worst seems to be over and we make it to the east coast.
