This is a post that I hoped I’d never have to make.

The shop had made it through so many of the challenges we’ve faced over the past nine years: flooding, a global pandemic, years of staffing shortages. Somehow, the universe has always provided in the most dire of situations. But this time is different. Over the course of the past six months, the entire Alberta’s Own team — who’ve all been representing our vendors for between three-to-five years — has been forced to leave Canmore or leave the workforce, and with the staffing shortage in the Bow Valley, I’ve no hope of replacing five full-time staff before November.

And so, Alberta’s Own storefront will be closing November 15.

Consider this your ten-day warning to get in here and grab the one-of-a-kind items, because they won’t be restocked. At the end of the ten days, on October 15, the closing sale will begin.

Our goal is to set up our vendors to financially survive the winter. For many of them, sales from Alberta’s Own have come to represent more than half their annual revenue, and it’s critically important to me that they are taken care of as we transition to online on 2027. So they will be receiving their full cut of every purchase, but Alberta’s Own will offer discounts so that you can start your Christmas shopping early and save big time on all your favourite locally-created items.

Your support over the years has meant everything to me. The fact that you all believed in — and SUPPORTED — this dream of showcasing Albertans’ talents to the world… well, there are no words. But even more than that support, this has become a community. A space where people care about one another, look for the good, and support the greater good.

I’m going to miss seeing your faces. So please, come in sometime in the next 42 days to help us celebrate all we accomplished together, and help close this chapter on a high note.
