Proud moment for Chicago Chefs Cook.

Finally made it to the new @soulandsmoke I’ve known @chefdandrecarter and @heatherbublick for well over 12 years! From pop up fine dining dinners to catering a small birthday dinner party to bbq carryout. This new flagship restaurant is their dream come true. The colorful decor (love the pops of red throughout) to the art everywhere (@hebrubrantley and more) that’s just the atmosphere! There is the food. Yum! Lip smacking good. Started with the deviled eggs (and gift from chef!). And for someone who does not really like deliver eggs boy was I surprised! Delicious, not too much mayo! Then we tried the oxtail ash cigar! Had one of these at the first pop up dinner the first time we met. Glad you brought them back! We ordered the meat sampler so we couple try everything! The brisket was tender and perfect. The ribs were “rib”olicous! Added some Parmesan fries. Perfect crisp. The perfect side for me. And of course a corn muffin with a side of the special butter. And to finish it off - Carmel cake! And as I ate I sipped a fabulous #pricklypearmargarita Left happy and sated There’s a reason that this restaurant had made @chicagomag #hotlist #rundontwalk #reservationsonresy #illbeback

FOUR CHEFS. ONE QUESTION. 🍽️

Who knew a question about dinner could leave a few chefs speechless?! 😆Think about it…four culinary professionals who spend their careers thinking about food, and the one question that stopped them in their tracks was who they’d invite to dinner! 😂

Let’s just say I caught a few of them off guard! And the funniest part? Only ONE remembered to tell me what they’d cook!

A special thank you to:
📍 Chef @sarah.stegner of @prairiegrasscafe
📍 @heatherbublick of @soulandsmoke
📍 Chef Darnell Reed of @luellassouthernkitchen
📍 Chef Imani Graham of @mentionables_eats

📖 Pick up Who’s Coming to Dinner? at Mariano’s for just $6.99, with proceeds supporting local hunger-relief organizations.

Now it’s your turn! Who would YOU invite to dinner? 🍽️

It’s a good thing that @soulandsmoke ‘s full service spot has opened in Evanston. Of course barbecue is their jam but you have seen me enjoy that so here are some of the other menu offerings that I think are “smoke shows”. First off, the Moto Cigar Bites, love this nod to where Chef D’Andre and Heather Bublick met, (I keep forgetting to mention to them I did dine there). The oxtail, collard greens and sesame seed as may have me acting no like Groucho but not feeling like one. The pastrami burnt ends are topped with pickled mustard seeds, gold sauce and microgreens.
Do not “swim” past Auntie Gene’s Fish Curry made with halibut collar, vadouvan gold curry sauce, and harissa oil, this fish is so flavorful and tender. I wanted to “kiss their grits” as that shrimp and grits had light, fluffy and creamy grits with perfectly cooked Wilfred shrimp and chicken andouille bisque. Maybe the @dukes_mayonnaise in the tomato pot pie add to the scrumptiousness with caramelized onions, cheddar and that double all butter pastry crust but I may be biased. I “sidled” up to the side sample with mac and cheese, greens, slaw, red beans and rice and a corn muffin perfect for enjoying all the sauces.
Caramel cake and sky high sweet potato pie cured my sweet tooth at the end of the meal. But I can’t forget the sips! Rum Punch with dark rum, orange, pineapple, lime, orgeat, allspice, a Smoked Peach Arnold Palmer with bourbon, smoked peach, lemon,
georgia peach rooibos, and black citron teas, and an N/A frozen Wildcat Lemonade with the perfect amount of sour over sweet which you can add booze too. The Soul and Smoke team, the artwork, food and drinks will make you want to come back again and again.
