In Dallas, October is our reward for surviving summer. Dinner outside finally stops being a negotiation with the heat, so I refuse to let the patio go dark just because the sun clocks out earlier.

And if dinner is moving outdoors, the design should come with it. To me, our patio is another living room. It follows the same rules as the rooms inside: seating that faces each other, somewhere to set a drink within arm's reach, and whatever you need to make the space comfortable and relaxing. For us, that means a TV for football, motorized screens to keep mosquitos at bay, string lights, and a fire pit for an extra dose of hygge.

And unlike the rooms inside, this one has a ceiling that repaints itself. Photo 4 was taken right after a rainstorm, when the sky turned the most brilliant shades of blue and purple. No wallpaper could compete 😍

When an outdoor space is designed like a real room from the start, it doesn’t need a seasonal rescue. It just needs people in it: friends eating dinner, a game on in the background, and Nash on squirrel patrol.

Our space is small and gets rearranged more often than I’d like to admit (especially now that we’ve added toddler toys to the mix 🙈), but that’s the point. It was never meant to be stared at. It was meant to be lived in.

Keep swiping for a few more outdoor rooms that live just as beautifully as the ones inside.

Cathy Kincaid of @cathykincaidinteriors and Meg Braff of @megbraffdesigns have an uncanny ability to create rooms that are not only beautiful, but truly unforgettable, and we had an incredible afternoon exploring how these powerhouse designers create spaces you genuinely want to live in.

Thank you to @southernhomemag for bringing these two voices together, to Suzanna Hamilton of @hamiltonhousemedia for moderating such a memorable conversation, and to Stark for welcoming us into their showroom as we celebrated Cathy and Meg and their new books at DISCOVER ADAC.

It was an afternoon filled with inspiration, conversation, and plenty of beautiful ideas to take home.

August rarely gave us much time to stand still. We’ve been watching lighting go in at our West Meade project, getting started on a couple of new Belle Meade Boulevard projects, and turning our attention to another Westview project.

Roger also squeezed in a trip to North Carolina to spend time with some lovely industry peers! And to close the month out, one especially exciting milestone was seeing our Clearview project in @archdigest!

We couldn’t be more grateful for this wonderful month! 🤎
