POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Seven years in the making - we’re beyond excited to premiere Guillaume Carlier’s EVERYBODY ALTOGETHER NOW on Dec 2, 7pm at @globecinema_yyc presented with @thecsif

12 short stories about the weird and wandering denizens of the city of Calgary, Canada. From a broken hearted immortal cowboy, to a teenage girl on the train, to an addict escaping his room. This mediation on dreaming asks: Do we dream of the city, or does the city dream of us?

A message from Leda Shields, "of body" curator:
Recently, I have been exploring my body's limitations and possibilities through my experience with chronic pain and chronic exhaustion. "of body" felt important to me because I rarely see representations of peoples' ongoing experiences with illness and pain. I want to thank "of body" artist Amber E. Powell. Her series "Wound Surround" acts as a retelling of her 6-year medical battle. I'd also like to thank sculpture artist Kara Sloan. Sloan's series in "of body", "Somatic Landscape" is inspired by her experience with chronic pain. Her words regarding her experience run deep; "A dance between the imposition of will and needs; my body, it’s illness and mine."
I wanted to explore (re)connection to the body, or reembodiment, and the collective body in this exhibition. "of body" artist Heather Kai Smith explores group interactions in her work, using drawing as a method of "[asking] the viewer to slow down and take stock of what is before them." She believes that, "at its core, drawing acts as a proposal for the future." Thank you, Heather, for sharing your unique and impactful perspective in this exhibition. I'd also like to thank Paloma Callo. Callo is a relational + somatic wellness practitioner. In addition to her paintings in the show, Callo has two workshop components in "of body" that explore connection to the body, to the present moment, and to those around us. Thank you, Paloma, for acting as a facilitator of learning in this exhibition.
I'd also like to thank: The Ministry of Casual Living for the opportunity to curate this exhibition, Peter MacBeth, Rowyn, Shalice, Ashley, Leanne, my mother, and more. You are all my teachers.

We didn’t have queer quilting yesterday so here’s a throwback pic by @madiganburke from our memory quilt workshop.
I personally like to work on the floor, and the gymnasium is perfect for spreading out and being cozy all at once.
See you next weekend for patchwork pillows 🧵 🪡

wonderful week
patient, purposeful introspection
I love this new thing of taking my time, discovering and integrating self, sitting in/with discomfort and contradicting desires, allowing sadness and pain to just come, exist, and go at its own pace, not being good enough yet, allowing myself to want things and be ok with letting people down.
life is messy and ugly and odd, and so am I, and that’s ok

This drawing by Heather Kai Smith is from a series that looks into why groups and communities form shared aspirations and how they act on them. She uses drawing to activate the momentum of images from the past, turning them into powerful prompts for our collective intentionality in the future.
