when I met @heathermcmahonwrites a few months ago on the internet, I was struck by a couple things. 1)how supportive she immediately was, and 2) how much her beautiful book and mine are alike! In many ways, her book I Was Always Worthy and mine, The Synesthete’s Rainbow, are sisters. 🩷 much like the way Heather and I support each other, our books exist in such specific harmony that we had to share our books and read our poems together!!!

Over the next few weeks, Heather and I will be sharing our overlapping poems 🫶🏾 our books and our poetry are here for anyone who feels hurt from unrequited love, anyone who was made to feel unworthy, and the lover girls with big hearts and a lot of love to give.

We hope you like these ones and we can’t wait to share more with you!

Doing a fun thing! Catch me performing poems while twitching from over-caffeination on Saturday, October 3rd, at 1pm! Stick around because there are talented folks before and after both days 🩷

Of course I'm late posting pics of our amazing weekend at the BOBC 😁
I had to over think the captions and edit the pics, then finally give up and throw these on here or accept it will never get done.... (Although I reserve the right to edit captions later if I suddenly become clever and witty in the future 😂)

It was an incredible weekend and we met so many talented authors and made fabulous new friends ❤️ 📚
My heart is so full!! Absolutely cannot wait for our next bookish adventure 😍

Fun Fact: Carrie had to buy a new stand for her BOBC books (93!!)
She still has TONS in storage and once she has her library set up, we'll be able to get them all settled in a permanent home 🤗

Come with me on the audiobook walk in collaboration with @reesesbookclub cohosted by @shaniastateofmind , @nahomyslibrary , and @wherethestoryleads .

This audiobook walk event was so fun! The vibes, the scenery, the book talk, the snacks, all perfection!

Special shout out to @heathermcmahonwrites for the special poem that she made on the fly with her typewriter.

I highly recommend joining the Columbus Chapter of Reese’s book club! These ladies are fabulous!

My first NAPOWRIMO / Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month recap ✨

April was everything Poetry. I gathered, I spoke, I performed, I listened, I dissolved into goo and refound my human form, I laughed, I wrote, I edited, I submitted, I read, I lived, I inhaled/exhaled poetry.

I left April exhausted and inspired, and with 17 new poems (one of which got picked up for publication!) in my pocket. Creativity was my companion in a way I’ve never appreciated more.

April also happens to be Autism Awareness/acceptance month, and being an autistic girl-about-town during this time meant I had my fair share of meltdowns and shutdowns.

I share openly about my diagnosis because many don’t. I want to illuminate what life as a creative, Level 1 Autistic person can look like (my personal experience only).

I’ve had my official diagnosis for just over a year, and it’s been a learning curve. Entering new spaces, changing routines, and high levels of socialization (especially with new people) takes a lot out of me. My friends sometimes didn’t hear from me for days at a time. I was lost in the sauce of the month, so it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

I also met so many new, wonderful people because I stretched past my comfort zone. Honoring my capacity AND stretching past it at times have both grown me in different ways. It’s a both/and.

All in all I found a lot of new grace and acceptance within myself this month, and even more gratitude for my community. What a beautiful thing it is to be an autistic poet, and to be a poet at all.

It was a pleasure to meet with a truly wonderful soul @heathermcmahonwrites , at a recent monthly event hosted by the Central Ohio Branch of the National League of American Pen Women at @storylinebookshop Heather graciously shared her experiences as an author and even signed a copy of her poetry book for us. We learned that she penned her first storybook during her sixth-grade year. Her presentation and life story were genuinely inspiring and motivating for all of us.

Before our meeting, we had a wonderful lunch at @littletonsmarket in Upper Arlington. It was a fun day, along with some beautiful pen women. @encausticsbybevgoldie3 @robiebenve @karindahlartist @artatdawn @helenhyee Silvia Mier, Ann Alaia Woods
