i have worked with mosaic for about 20 years, experimenting with a lot of different materials.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In the wake of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy, mosaic artists Jennifer Kuhns (WA) and Cherie Bosela (FL) came together to transform a prominent Orlando wall into a monument of resilience. Seeking to unite a global community against discrimination, they invited people worldwide to contribute handmade mosaic hearts, volunteer their time, or offer financial support.
The response was overwhelming: over 1,700 hearts arrived from every corner of the globe. Today, this vibrant mural stands as a powerful beacon of hope, solidarity, and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community and anyone who has ever faced fear, marginalization, or hatred simply for being themselves. Please share this post, to show the power of mosaics and of people coming together. ♥️♥️♥️ #diversitymural #sharethelove photo credit: @lunamosaicarts 📸

This is the Children’s Memorial Garden in Brantford, Ontario. A memorial to all children and a welcoming place for everyone.

The mosaic behind me was created by Heather Vollans through a collaborative effort with over 200 children.

What are some other interesting places in Brantford I should check out?

Let me know in the comments.

In February, the largest contingent of artists joined Evolve and Evolve Next Level, and it was the most diverse contingent to date.

Many ceramicists, of course, as well as photographers, sculptors, watercolourists, authors, illustrators, installation artists, and painters.

It was the most internationally diverse group - from far-flung places around the globe, including England, Ireland, the US, and Canada. And of course, all the Aussies spotted across this big brown land.

There were many celebrations, breakthroughs, and excellent outcomes. They are still coming.

There were also challenges - physical, mental, and emotional - as well as setbacks, relocations, and more. What I witnessed through this all was the inventiveness, flexibility, resilience, and unwavering commitment these artists have to their art. There is always a way, and they proved this.

I have many aims with Evolve, the highest one being that artists have the skills and confidence to walk their own path, making work of integrity that is unmistakeably theirs.

These are the artists who took up the challenge and I had the immense privilege to work with. I continue to work with many of them in the next chapter and hope to work with each again.
Thank you for an incredibly enriching 6 months.

Please watch this reel a few times to appreciate the talent showcased and follow these artists.

Smalls Show Fundraiser
This is a unique chance to purchase and take home a small original mosaic made by artists from across the country and beyond. This SMALLS show is taking place in conjunction with the UNITY exhibit at Neilson Park Creative Centre.
Small mosaics are $75 each. They are “cash and carry,” meaning that buyers don’t have to wait for the duration of the show to take home their mosaic. Buyers are responsible for the cost of shipping, if applicable. (In-person purchase ONLY)

All proceeds from the sale (minus a 15% commission for the gallery) will go towards supporting future exhibits and helping to fund organization costs (for example, our website). MAC is a not-for-profit, member-based organization, dedicated to supporting the dynamic medium of mosaic and its artists. MAC has been bringing together mosaic artists through its national exhibitions since 2017.

Thank you to all the artists who have donated to the fundraiser.

When my book was published, I received 20 author copies. So far, they've been sitting in a stack on my dresser as I figured out what to do with them. Seeing the stack of books brought me joy... but also felt like a bit of a waste. I didn't write this story to sit on a shelf.

Seeing a Little Free Library in need of books recently gave me an idea... so I drove around Brantford on Saturday, leaving paperback copies in Little Free Libraries around the city. I hope they bring someone joy 💙

P.S. Tell me if you find one!

SLATE = ART…Both on and off the roof! 👀🔨

Big thanks to the very talented @heathervollans for sharing these photos of her latest art pieces using individual pieces of North Country Slate! Sometimes the scrap pile in our yard proves to be more than just scraps! 🤩

We love to see our product shown in a different light! It just goes to prove how versatile natural slate really is! 💯
