Gurtlandia is a satirical micro-nation declared by a local avant-garde performance and activist group known as the Trash Heap Collective. On September 26, 2026, the group staged a playful, theatrical "secession" from the City of Denver, claiming the historic 80-acre grounds of Cheesman Park as their own sovereign territory.
The movement is fronted by a figure known as Mayor Gurt—who wore a sparkling gold suit and a plastic crown for the declaration—alongside his most trusted advisor and main emcee, Vice Mayor JoJo Truant.
🥦 The Genesis: A Geopolitical Broccoli Incident
The entire push for Gurt-pendence allegedly stems from a political grievance involving Denver’s actual mayor, Mike Johnston. According to Vice Mayor JoJo Truant, members of the collective held a meeting with Johnston
Deeming the broccoli incident a catastrophic failure of municipal governance, the group began drafting blueprints to establish a superior alternative nation right in the middle of Denver.
📜 The Founding Ceremony & Gurt-lympics
The official declaration took place at noon at the neoclassical marble Cheesman Park Pavilion. Dozens of supporters, local artists, and curious passersby gathered to witness the transition of power and participate in several bizarre, tongue-in-cheek events:
• Signing of the Documents: Attendees officially signed poster-sized copies of the Declaration of Gurt-pendents and the Bill of Gurts to formalize their citizenship.
• The Screaming Competition: A blood-curdling screaming match was held between the marble pillars of the pavilion to echo the cries of revolution.
• Tug-of-Gurt: Instead of a traditional rope, participants engaged in a "tug-of-geug" using the fabric of the mayor's own clothing.
• The Gurt-lympics: A series of highly informal, improvised sports events held on the park's central meadow to crown the micro-nation's first athletic heroes
🗺️ The Sovereign Vision for Gurtlandia
The Trash Heap Collective presented a fully realized, utopian—and highly chaotic—manifesto for how the 80 acres of Cheesman Park will operate under Gurtlandia rule

Rick Ashton is on the case.

The Legit Twins hired Rick Ashton, Private Detective, to sniff out clues as to who the mystery guest is for J♥KEBOX on October 3rd — at Rise Comedy in Denver, CO.

So far, Rick has dug up the following about the mystery guest.

Favorite TV Show: The Office

Favorite Band: Nickleback
Something they’re weirdly good at: Close-up magic
Something stupid they’ve done: Close-up magic

Throw Rick a bone and come watch Legit Twing perform with this mystery guest on J♥KEBOX.

The show is at 7 PM. It’s on a Saturday.

Coming to the show is the only way to show Rick that he’s a good boy.

SERIES 1 begins Friday, October 16 at 9:30pm with Pilot Night. At Pilot Night, the audience serves as the Network Executives greenlighting which series will continue for the next six months.

Audience suggestions will inspire two separate possibilities, and the audience will vote on which pilot episode gets a full-run. Come back every third Friday to see the characters and world continue.

Will this be on actual TV? No, silly, it’s a stage show. Sorry to confuse you.

Welcome to Gurtlandia.

On Saturday afternoon, dozens of supporters gathered as the micronation of Gurtlandia was founded by the eponymous Mayor Gurt, dressed in a sparkling gold suit and a plastic crown.

The fledgling nation was established on the haunted grounds of Cheesman Park, between the marble pillars of The Pavilion. Mayor Gurt and Vice Mayor JoJo Truant introduced the Declaration of Gurt-pendents, whose text proclaimed "Gurt-pendence" from the Denver mayor's office, and the Bill of Gurts. Gurt's supporters and passersby alike lined up to sign the poster-sized documents.

Heather Walker, who recently went viral for her open invitation to "watch a grown woman attempt to roller skate for the first time," was among Gurt's supporters. Sporting the same iconic pink helmet from her roller skating attempt, Walker began to climb a nearby tree as the boisterous crowd watched and cheered. As she reached the top and raised her fists in celebration with the crowd, Gurtlandia was already witnessing history being made.

The crown is heavy for 20-year-old Gurt. His golden regalia projects authority on his tall, slender frame, but he is quite shy and leaves the louder rallying cries to his Vice Mayor. On the quieter side of Gurtlandia, I asked the mayor if he had any thoughts on public safety in his new nation.

"There's a difference between public safety and private safety. I have my own force hidden around to protect me and I feel like everybody else can fend for themselves." He continued, "We have plans on pushing back on police or any other direct attack."

Other events included the singing of the Gurtlandia National Anthem, The Gurtlympics, and Tug of Gurt.

Mayor Mike Johnston's office did not reply for comment on the secession by the time of this post.

Meet Nathan.

Nathan can do impressions of soup. Even when someone is doing a handstand behind him.

If you want to make a difference in Nathan’s life, you will come support him when he performs on J♥KEBOX with his improv troupe, Legit Twins.

The show is on October 3rd at Rise Comedy Club (which, BTW, is the best comedy club in the continental United States).

Witness a great Improv Troupe perform. Bring your smart cellular phone device. Use your telephone to vote for the performer that you like the most — as long as that performer is Nathan.

The show is at 7 PM.

The weather is predicted to be “indoor favoring.” This means it will be ideal weather conditions for doing something indoors.
