These 3 presets remind me of the sound Hans Zimmer achieves in Dune👌

@heavyocity sent me "NOVO: Modern Strings" to try out, and here’s what I made using just 3 presets, plus some pitch bend and modulation to shape the sound and make it more expressive.

NOVO is a modern string instrument combining detailed orchestral performances with cinematic, processed textures, making it great for creating unique and atmospheric sounds.

What do you think?

The Film Scoring Network, in collaboration with the Berklee Screen Scoring Department, is back for the 3rd Annual FSN Film Festival! Over the past three years, more than 100 films from Berklee students and alumni have been submitted to the festival. This year, we’re taking it even further with our biggest celebration of film, music, and the Berklee scoring community yet. Brought to you by our amazing sponsors: Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, Vienna Symphonic Library, and Heavyocity

The Festival will take place October 31 and November 1, with two fully packed days:

🎬 Screenings of the best student and alumni films and scores
🎤 2 industry panels featuring working professionals
🎁 A raffle featuring prizes from our sponsors
🍕 Food, networking, and more
🏆 Awards celebrating outstanding work in categories including Best Original Score, Best Short Film, and more

This is more than a screening. It’s a celebration of the people, music, and films that make up the Berklee film scoring community.

If you’re a Berklee student or alum who has worked on a film as a composer, sound designer, or in another creative role, we want to see your work.
Submissions are completely FREE, and you can submit either a full film or a selected segment if the project is too long.

Submissions are due Oct 9 by 11:59PM EST! Link in Bio

Don’t miss your chance to have your work featured at the biggest festival in FSN history.

🎶✨️ Here is how to create powerful percussion in 3 easy steps:

🥁 Low-End: Keep deep Taikos or Gran Cassas sparse. Hit the primary beats and keep a general drive going throughout!

🥁 Mid-Range Engine: Layer frame drums or timpani to carry the main rhythmic pattern to keep momentum moving throughout, using differing rhythms to the low ends!

🥁 High-End Detail: Use your shakers, metallic hits, or tambourines to add air, sparkle and stereo motion to complete the overall frequency!

🎶 Pro-Tip: Humanize your mid and high layers by NOT quantities them (fully) so the rhythm breathes naturally!

💬 What’s your go-to patch for driving action cues? Mine absolutely has to be @heavyocity DAMAGE 2! Drop yours below!
