Meet our 2025 Positive Athlete Boys O.P.E.R.A.T.E. Winner from Virginia.

📍JUELZ PETERS
Senior, Alexandria City High School
Wrestling

Juelz Peters is the definition of resilience, strength, and second chances. After experiencing years of extreme trauma and neglect—including being unschooled for over five years and enduring life-threatening injuries without treatment—Juelz’s story could have ended before it ever had a chance to begin. But when he was welcomed into the care of his aunt, Kimberly Funn, everything changed. At 11 years old, he began the long, difficult journey of healing—emotionally, academically, and physically.

Juelz didn’t just survive—he started to thrive. With the support of teachers, counselors, and the unwavering belief of his wrestling coaches at AC, he found the structure and support he had never known. Wrestling became more than a sport—it became his discipline, his purpose, and his path forward. In the summer of 2024, Juelz went all in, training across the country for over 45 days to sharpen his skills and grow into the competitor he always had the potential to be.

The payoff? A senior season to remember: a 24-2 record. But his greatest victory may be off the mat—Juelz is on track to graduate this spring and has committed to Garrett College in Maryland, earning a partial athletic scholarship to continue both his education and wrestling career.

Juelz Peters is still writing his story, but the chapters ahead are filled with promise. From unimaginable hardship to hopeful horizons, Juelz reminds us what’s possible when someone is given a chance—and chooses to fight for their future.

Our next senior is another captain, Juelz Peters! Juelz is our heavyweight and has been on the team for 4 years. His favorite part was when Coach Marshall hip tossed him. Yay Juelz!
