QUEEN! at SmartBar
I have the honor of hosting my favorite party in the universe for the first time.
The theme is LITTLE BLACK DRESS. Points for ripped, glittery, or floor length, but take these recs with a grain of salt and please show me how versatile this wardrobe staple can be. But also, fuck Coco Chanel.
Queen! is responsible for so much of who I am. Nights spent there and mornings enjoyed afterwards offered a sense of freedom I will never relinquish, helping to define my relationships with others, with music, and with myself. I dance for and with friends who are here and those who aren’t— I dance for and with Darling, Shalease, Justin, Don and Don, Javi, Skin, David, Joy, Amparo, Jojo, endless more.
Nearly 7 years ago, December 2018, shortly after my 21st birthday, I attended for the first time, in black sequins and stockings, and little clue what lied ahead, & upon arrival, Jojo Baby approached me, taking my hand and showing me around the basement through a crowd of sweaty gays, dramatic divas, and freak show clowns, inviting me into the fold in a moment that was both casually unceremonious and lifechangingly impactful; one shared joint together later, and I knew I was home.
I met @nicozworld when I would hang outside of Roscoe’s to look at drag queens when I was 15; she engaged with me not like some fan or some child, but like another human being, and I was in awe to be able to share a dance floor 6 years later.
And @tyislucystoole ‘s ferocious and infectious cackle soundtracks my dreams; she was one of the many queens I hung outside underage to get a peek at, and our first shared laugh over the state of debauchery around us felt like sunlight through clouds. After a delightful trip through the woods this last weekend, I revel in the opportunity to do this together.
Come join me on the dance floor, in the bathroom, or find me standing outside like the gargoyle I was raised to be.

Profection: Excruciating and moving, growing pains par for the course. Did some of the coolest shit I’ve ever done this year (half of which I still can’t talk about until next) but my life was most profoundly changed post-eclipse with the release of “Diva Down”, and then facial feminization surgery in September. Grateful for the people that show up, understanding to those who don’t, patient with self and others.
No platitudes. Just free Palestine and protect trans people every day. Stay safe tonight, and forever. See you soon.
