Some killer black metal tapes acquired recently. Hekseblad debut full length Kaer Morhen directly from the band, and from Jems Label we have the Wyrmseer demo/EP and Cursebound by Astral Ruins. Big recommendations for these three. Hail @heksebladusbm, @wyrmseer_bm, Astral Ruins, and @jemslabel! ⚔️⚔️⚔️

Melodic and Vicious Fantasy Black Metal from the United States. Inspired by the lore of Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher novel franchise and proudly paying homage to the masters in Emperor, Dissection, and Obtained Enslavement.

Drawing lyrical inspiration from the works of Andrezj Sapkowski's beloved Fantasy franchise “The Witcher” and musically recalling the days of true Black Metal glory (namely the likes of Emperor, Dissection, Gorgoroth and Obtained Enslavement), Hekseblad delivers a furious and magickal take on the sound of late 90’s Black Metal; balancing on the edge of melodic but malicious with their furious barrage of riffs and tying it together with flourishes of Symphonic sorcery conjuring a maelstrom of frozen ferocity.

Line-Up
Bruxa (vocals)
Frosk (instrumentals)

All songs written and performed by Hekseblad.
All songs mixed and mastered by Sean McCormack of Funeral Frog Media.
Guest solo on Track 6 performed by Sörjande of Mourning by Morning.
Additional lyrics and lore provided by Maxx Macabre.
"The Witcher" novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Artwork by Aghy R Parakusuma.

Hekseblad – Kaer Morhen
____
The world canon of fantasy literature is so broad, and yet it's rare to find a black metal band willing to look beyond the most obvious. Lyrical themes based in Sapkowski's Witcher series are reason enough to find this band interesting, but I've found myself returning to this album for its own sake many times since its release. Dark and foreboding, yet with a driving adventurous energy that suits the subject material. An underappreciated gem.
