Down at the Beach
🏖️ 🐚☀️🌊🪣🧴

Perhaps we are bit late with our beach plays (going back to work this summer has certainly put a pause on things) however, this weekend we saw a lovely kids show at @edfringe called Hello Beach and we’re off soon for our beachy holiday so this was the perfect play this weekend for us.

Bear loved exploring the table, getting the pegs covered in sun cream, and taking them for a swim, as well as building sandcastles and finding all the different shells!

And can you spot the seagull who stole an ice cream??

🏖️ Our deluxe July by the Sea box from @play_craftgrow was so perfect for this play with the sensory base, summer infiniplay and mini sand castle and @not.so.tuff.trays reusabase

🐚 Wooden coins, market stall, and under the sea infiniplay also from @play_craftgrow (rep code: playdays10)

☀️ pegs from @sarahspegs (rep code: sarah10)

🌊 rock pool cloth from @the.wonderie

🪣 beach hut from @lubulona

🧴silk scarf and mini shells (real and pasta!) and flat ice cream from @mayas_play_tray

🏖️ wooden loose parts from @fourkidstoys

“I’ve been a theatre producer for about 12 years now. Originally, I trained as a performer, as an actor, and I studied classical theatre. I then moved into stage management; I really enjoyed that.

When we were producing, I was like, yeah, that’s me. All my skill sets perfectly match that. I really love seeing a show get onto its feet, see it happen, then not have to watch that show 70 times. I get it going, go, ‘oh there you go, it’s done’.

I now run Jasmine Cole Productions, which is a company that primarily promotes supporting emerging artists, supporting emerging performers, and new companies to make their first shows and new writing. Last year, we actually decided to put on one of our shows, which was Hello Birds. I think this will be my thirteenth year doing the Fringe though.

It is a baby show, for nought to three-year-olds. I worked with two of my colleagues and put it into research and development. We created the show working with young parents and specialists in early years development. Now we’ve made our second show this year, Hello Beach. We have both of them up at the Fringe this year.

We’re from Cornwall, we work with a lot of different Cornish artists in making the shows. The other side of my work is that I also work for VocalEyes, which is an audio description charity based down in London. I work on the side providing logistics for theatre companies, big and small, to try and add audio description into their shows.

Our shows here are also audio described throughout, integrated into the scripts. Some of the artists we work with have disabilities as well. So sometimes we have extra days off. What we do, is we actually have a load of understudies, so the shows can go ahead and run. Although, if you come and see both shows, you might see different performers.”
