As a filmmaker, I'm reminded that the people who deserve the biggest applause are the ones behind the scenes.

The ones backstage, carrying garment bags, checking guest lists, calming nerves, moving lights, finding sponsors, selling tickets, collecting donations, and making everything happen.

Last night's Fashion For Cancer gathering wasn't a runway show. It was a reunion of past and present models, volunteers and organisers. It reminded me that while I may not be walking this year, I'm super grateful to be part of this extraordinary community.

I had the privilege of serving as a Model Ambassador in 2024. At the time, it was a celebration of surviving cancer. Looking back, I realise it was also an invitation into a tribe; one that continues to grow long after the lights and stage goes down.

What makes Fashion For Cancer so meaningful isn't just the fashion. It's what the fashion enables.

Since its inception, this movement has raised more than S$600,000 for the National Cancer Centre cancer fund. Every ticket purchased, corporate sponsor, every fundraising event, volunteer hour and donation contributes towards cancer research and patient support. Helping fund better treatments while easing the burden for patients and their families.

FCC was built and spearheaded by @grey_evolution and @unker_rich to honour @rongliangchia. More than that, they're built a village of people who believe in something bigger.

So today, I want to shine a light on the people we don't always see. The committee members who spend months planning. The volunteers who give up weekends. The backstage crew who work tirelessly behind the scenes. The designers who donate their talent. The sponsors who choose to invest. The photographers and videographers who preserve these moments. The donors who quietly give. And every person who buys a ticket, knowing they're helping someone they'll might not meet but might live through cancer.

You may not walk the runway. But you are as part of the journey as us all.

Thank you for reminding me that cancer survivorship isn't something we do alone. It's a community. And I'm incredibly grateful to still call it mine.
It Matters.
