This week’s private salon at Sarabande brought guests closer to the artists, practices and creative community at the heart of our partnership with The St. Regis London (@stregis.london).

Across the day, guests explored Sarabande’s studios, met some of the creatives behind the works and discovered more about the practices and processes shaping the hotel’s collection, curated by House of Bandits.

The experience continued over art and conversation, accompanied by The St. Regis London’s signature Bloody Mary, canapés and Champagne Sabrage ritual, set against a tablescape created by Sarabande artist Emma Witter (@emma_witter_).

A celebration of the people and processes behind a collaboration that will bring over 1,000 works from Sarabande’s creative community into The St. Regis London - and mark House of Bandits’ first hotel curation.

House of Bandits is a gallery by Sarabande Foundation (@sarabandefoundation), housing unique and limited-edition works by artists-in-residence and alumni. All purchases directly support the foundation, the artists and future generations of creatives.

This week I had the pleasure of leading a workshop as part of the @delfinafdn current thematic season exploring making and materiality.

It was a real joy to share this special place with a group of friends who mean a great deal to me. Together, we explored how emotion can be conveyed through material form, beginning with the draping of a chosen fabric and then translating those forms into clay.

The work produced was thoughtful, expressive, and genuinely impressive.

Thank you to everyone who joined with such openness and enthusiasm, and to the @delfinafdn team for making it all possible.

I left with a very full heart 💗

In 2004 Artist @karl_bielik opened @terrace_gallery in Hackney, London.
For over 20 years 100’s of exhibitions have been held at Terrace Studios, Patchworks, a reclaimed wasteland, a pub back room, a Library and now back where it began.
The primary focus of Terrace Gallery is painting.

Spent today invigilating with @nancollantine at The Shadowside of Everything, Part I. @terrace_gallery. 36 John William Street, Huddersfield HD1 1ER. Thanks @ruthheaton for great photo and also to fellow @the_pearls_preston @helenthomasartist for popping by

One visitor asked was there a theme? Whilst abstract is the most obvious connection between us, another unifying factor is in the use of paint, not to represent something, but to unearth or elicit something. From the quiet, uneasy, barley there, silky painting by @hellolucyjagger, to the gravity defying, stilt walking, bosing it painting @christopherblyth_art they all want to talk of life.

The works speaks to something visceral, gloppy, sticky, playful and slippery. With full throttle paint attack from @rob_hall_painter_ and @karl_bielik; lyrical responses to the movement of paint and fludity from @mrksfn; full meat on the bones, solid physical bodies of paint from @henriettaroeder and enigmatic space from @diane_howse.

Some subtly subvert, @nancollantine plays with delicacy and feminity but refuses to submit. There's an epithany in @mgdull painting with the irrelevant use of glitter set below a dark blue, a religious icon of painting itself. @anthonyhousman77 and @7_by_4, widely different collaged paintings both try to find space, making sense of and bringing order to that which feels lost.
