POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Continuing our ā€˜In Conversation: IWD23 edition’ series withĀ Lisa Park (@helloparko) currently at Studio Band (@studioband)

✨What challenges have you faced as a woman in the design industry and how do you think this has/hasn’t changed throughout your career?
šŸ’”I think from past experiences, just being underestimated and gender stereotyped. Especially being a woman with an asian background, people have assumed I would be someone who's quiet, submissive and a pushover when in fact I have a very straight forward and strong personality. Like many asian women I challenged this stereotype by always being me and not being afraid to speak my mind. I hope to see more strong women step up and also see more women of colour in leadership and entrepreneur roles.

✨Who are 3 other women in the industry who inspire you?
šŸ’” Veronica Fuerte (@veronicafuere) – Founder of Hey Studio (@heystudio)
šŸ’”Lotta Nieminen (@lottanieminen)– Finnish Illustrator and Designer based in NYC
šŸ’”Sumita Maharaj (@sumitamaharaj)– My mentor and amazing Design Director at Re Design (@re.design.global)

✨What’s the best piece of advice you would give to anyone, or specifically women, working in our industry?
šŸ’”Don't be afraid to speak up. As women, I feel that we can be portrayed as somebody that's threatening or intimidatingĀ because we have an opinion. But we should do it more often and not be discouraged! Praise and celebrate moments when things are going great but also learnĀ to step up to have difficult conversations when something's not sitting right with you. I never want to be that person who later in life thinks 'What if I said something...' I hope we keep supporting and empowering each other to break the conventional, and see other women working together to overcome this barrier.

This April we opened Re Illustration Club with our incredible guest @jiayuerrr who talked us through her process, inspiration, and work.

Our designers were tasked to bring the theme of ā€œcreatureā€ to life and here’s some of their amazing work!

Happy (belated) International Women’s Day! I’m so grateful that I’ve been surrounded by strong women my whole life which has shaped me to who I am today šŸ’Ŗ

My Mum who is juggling multiple jobs with her hard work ethics despite the fact that she can’t speak English well in a English-speaking country (New Zealand). And for talking Dad into moving the whole family to NZ where the feminist culture is strong.
My sister Lisa who was brave enough to move to another country (Australia) all by herself to pursue her dream career as a designer.
Even my bunny girl Elly who is strongly independent, looks after her brother Bobby, and has survived a major surgery that led her to lose multiple teeth but still eats faster than Bobby haha 🐰🐰 I’m also grateful to be commissioned by @graciasapp - a start-up whose mission is to teach young women about Bitcoin and crypto currencies. We need more young women to be seriously thinking about their money! So watch this space for some cool collab illustrations šŸ˜‰

Finally, I’m also so grateful for all the men in my life who has supported me to become the woman I am today. Special thanks and love to my partner Sam who has ALWAYS been there for me through all the good times and the bad for the last 5 years šŸ’–šŸ’• Who are you most grateful for that has helped shape who you are today?
