Mount Kinabalu Summit 17-18 Oct 2026

The first time i been to Kinabalu was 11years ago, in March 2015. To climb mount Kinabalu, but i didn’t reach the peak, miss out the cut off time at Sayat-sayat checkpoint. I should pay attention to the briefing before summit climb, but there it is, all is in the past.

Last weekend, at 33rd Mt. Kinabalu International Climbathon 2026, i got an invitation just 2weeks before the race to be part of the team, and the best part is, staying at the summit of Mount Kinabalu, as time keeper.

This event is one of Asia’s most challenging mountain races, taking runners from Kinabalu Hall past Timpohon Gate, Layang-Layang and Laban Rata, all the way to 𝗟𝗼𝘄’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝟰,𝟬𝟵𝟱.𝟮𝗺 before they race back down to the finish line.

The race involved a lot of agencies and such as Sabah Tourism Board, Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd, Sabah Parks, Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Environment Sabah, International Trail Running Association (ITRA), Skyrunner Worls Series (SWS), Mountain Guide Association, Mountain Porters, Emergency & Medical Support Agencies, The Civil Defence Department (APM), St. John Ambulance, Amateur Radio Society and local volunteers. Its an honor to be able to work together with them.

One of the best experience i ever have so far, plus a long-awaited summit dream which is the best reward after years of waiting. Reaching Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia’s highest mountain at 4,095.2 meters (13,435 feet) in Sabah, Borneo is truly a massive personal milestone for me.

Nextime will be a trip with my wife ❤️ InsyaAllah

Such a special place. Such a special mountain.

I’ve seen a lot of mountains around the world, but none quite like Kinabalu. Its shapes are unlike anything else I’ve seen. Getting to stand on its summit twice feels like a gift, and something I don’t take for granted.

Before coming back this year, I spent time looking through last year’s photos. What worked, what didn’t, and what I could do better. I wanted to learn from those mistakes, try new ideas and take a few more creative risks.

There’s a lot of work before the camera even comes out, and I’m really happy with how these photos turned out.

Here are a few from this year’s @skyrunning / @hellosabahmy Climbathlon.
