After jumping the corkscrew with a brake over temp problem, we spent the night thrashing to get the car back together. @cloudedfour2 and I stayed up late to fix the radiator mounting, replace the radiator fan and wiring (Thanks @mike_stanceworks), remake splitter mounts with a splitter provided by friends at the track, and hammer out the oil cooler ducting to finalize the “rebuild”. @ryanr_18 and mchambers_13 were super helpful with tools and moral support to get us back up. $WARNING: You can never unsee it. This was supposed to be our season ender. A staple for us @roadatlanta with @nasa_se hosting an event the call “Santa’s Toy Run”. This was also our chance to take a stab at the Miata record which was held by @racerpinky which stood at 1:25.3xx. A time we weren’t far off from with out PB sitting at a 1:26.1xx. We chose to forgo the first session of the day as there was still sitting dew and track conditions weren’t optimal for proper lap time. We let the time warmers continue to cook and waited for the second session. It was time. We started at the back of the pack as we didn’t have a time for the first session. With how well the car was driving, this was light work. It took us four laps to finally start our flyer. An incident on track caused an immediate red flag at turn 1 followed by a follow up warm up lap. 4 laps in, the car felt great. Better than it ever has. Coming out of turn 5 we were more tha 2.5 seconds faster than our PB. It was ours. Little did we know, gravel had been littered across 10a/10b from an incident. This is the result. We spent the weekend at M1 Concourse for American Speed Festival with a bunch of our favorite people, and somehow managed to end the season on a pretty high note.

Chris finished the weekend P1 with a 1:09.738 in the final session on Sunday, giving the tires that carried us through the entire race season one last proper send-off.

The even better part? Finding out afterward that we had been running on 7 of 8 cylinders all weekend.

Apparently the car decided it didn’t need all of them.

Chris was also pretty damn pumped about getting his M1 Concourse red jacket and a nice champagne shower. Was all a big surprise for us.
